The two warships recently added to the fleet of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy are equipped with domestically-developed surface-to-air (SAM) and cruise missiles, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri says.
The IRGC Navy commander told the IRIB TV1 television channel on Wednesday that the two homegrown catamarans, dubbed Shahid (Martyr) Sayyad Shirazi and Shahid Hassan Bagheri, are named after the legendary Iranian military commanders known for their heroics during the imposed war in the 1980s.
Each of the vessels is furnished with six Sayyad-3 (Hunter-3) surface-to-air missiles, 16 vertically launched Navvab air defense missiles, as well as six cruise missiles with a range of between 40 and 750 kilometers. Their radar systems can identify targets up to a range of 150 kilometers, the commander stated.
Tangsiri said the new military catamarans are 68 meters in length, 18.5 meters wide, 14 meters in height, and have four marine engines.
The IRGC Navy chief said the hulls of the vessels are made of aluminum, meaning they would neither sink nor lose mobility in case of a maritime incident. He said Iran is the third country in the world capable of manufacturing such watercraft.
The vessels enjoy good seakeeping abilities and stability features. They can withstand rogue ocean waves of up to Force 7, Tangsiri said.
The commander said the IRGC Navy is in close contact with 103 domestic knowledge-based firms as well as 32 universities in order to develop the military gear it requires.
On Monday, the IRGC Navy took delivery of Shahid Sayyad Shirazi and Shahid Hassan Baqeri military vessels during a ceremony in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.
Iranian military experts and engineers have in recent years made remarkable breakthroughs in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient.
Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the Islamic Republic will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiation.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has repeatedly called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities.

And these Muslim wogs can’t wait to kill off more white men with them too, as they’re presently sending drones to Russia to waste Aryans in Ukraine.
Maybe Iran is more ready to build these smaller but nonetheless impressive naval vessels because rather than the big expensive tubs they are cheaper to build and replace? In the image the vessel is accompanied by the swell of a smaller faster vessel, and with its catamaran two-hull design maybe its harder to sink with a single missile strike and may stay afloat longer; and if she is going down the crew may have more time to man lifeboats, with the likelihood of a quicker rescue as survivors are ferried to Iranian shores where these vessels operate.
When you don’t sail distant oceans because you’re a defensive power not an expansionary one, you have no need to spend three to four times as much on battleships (and any accompanying vessels) when you can buy multiples of these.

IRGCN doctrine does not abandon speedboats at all and takes them to the high seas and oceans, however with the help of multi-purpose-support vessels. There is large drone carrier that carry ~38 speedboats of varying types. As for the new catamaran ships, the design is very fast and agile able to quickly rotate and face a target; you are correct that they have a larger capacity, stability and survival potential as they are very hard to sink; they also carry 3 speedboats that can be deployed by the rear-crane. Furthermore there is a Sina remote-surgery robot in the medical compartment on the ship, enabling doctors far away from the Ship to remotely perform surgery operations in the ship, this can be controlled by AI in near future, so it’s a new definition for cheap! The US made Da’Vinchi telesurgery robot is way more expensive and needs replacement of some parts after every operation. Even Scott Ritter admitted that US navy relies on legacy systems; air-craft carriers or large expensive slow moving ships are obsolete due to advances in drone and missile technology.
Iran’s Dena (رزم نام دنا کلاس جماران) which is a Jamaran class warship along with Makran which in Iran is classified as a multi-purpose mobile-harbor (ناوبندر مکران) have covered all oceans orbiting the globe and crossing the equator 4 times, and after 237 days of voyage returned to Iran. This is very significant but the key mystery is they did not refuel at any point! Possible TRISO based mini-nuclear reactors such as those Westinghouse makes!? What else?
You may not believe it but a certain western official decades ago had ridiculed Iran for never becoming an ocean going nation ever again and some people in Iran took the remarks very seriously! : )
As for Iran’s military doctrine being defensive, this is not accurate because Iran’s only limitations as far as I know are: 1- not start a war 2- no nukes or weapons of mass destruction
Syed Ali Khamenei the leader of the Resistance Axis said 14 times that Iran does not need nuclear weapons. A few years ago in a gathering with Nuclear scientists he said:
We want to prove to the world that having nuclear weapons does not create/bring power; because the countries that have them today are suffering from the worst of problems. They had become dominant by threat of nukes, however this threat no longer has any use. We want to say that we are not after nukes and we do not see power in them and we can break any power relying on nuclear weapons!
my two tomans
