During a discussion titled ‘Defending Truth,’ The editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal admitted to Davos elites that the legacy media no longer ‘own the facts’ and people are much more likely to question what they report as truth.
Emma Tucker told a crowd at the World Economic Forum, “I think there’s a very specific challenge for the legacy brands, like the New York Times and like the Wall Street Journal.”
She continued, “If you go back really not that long ago, as I say, we owned the news. We were the gatekeepers, and we very much owned the facts as well.”
“If it said it in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, then that was a fact,” Tucker further stated, adding “Nowadays, people can go to all sorts of different sources for the news and they’re much more questioning about what we’re saying.”

During the same discussion, Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission, complained about the rise of ‘disinformation’ being a “security threat,” noting “It was part of the Russian military doctrine that they will start information war, and we are in it now.”
“Disinformation is a very powerful tool,” Jourová continued, adding that “In the EU we are focusing on improving of the system where the people will get the facts right. We don’t speak about opinions. We are not correcting anyone’s opinions or language. This is about the facts.”

Tory MPs are already in defection talks with Reform UK, as Tory and Labour parties sink to the bottom
Richard Tice Reform UK leader has said that several mainly Tory MPs are in secret discussions with his party to defect,
in what would be the latest blow for Rishi Sunak.
Speaking at his new year launch event a fortnight ago, Richard Tice encouraged Lee Anderson to jump ship, and warned any Tories who stayed put would face a tough election battle from Reform, with his party set to take at least 10 percent of the vote.

The “political class” largely do no appreciate what’s going on because their immediate concern is for their own parliamentary seats. MPs are “intelligent” in a narrow sense. They are often good “talkers” and understand the importance of pitching towards the average intellect. MPs will be naturally Machiavellian within their own party on matters of “selection” and so on.
The average MP will have this specific greasy pole climbing skill set without any notion of how the world really works. For if they knew how the world really works, we should have had many “whistleblowers” by now; we haven’t. You’re quite mistaken. Every candidate at a general election pays a £500 deposit to stand.
£500 x 650 parliamentary constituencies = £325,000.
The deposit is returned if the candidate secures 5% or more of the total votes cast.
From the period following the dissolution of parliament, when candidates are officially registered, to the day of the election, a prospective MP is limited to spending a maximum of £11, 390 + 12p per registered voter in the constituency, according to the most recent government figures.
The latter of the two expenses is variable and less easy to tally but in a report on the 2010 general election, the Electoral Commission gave the total expenditure, across all constituencies as £14,000,000. This gives an average of £21,538 per constituency. If we were to attribute a count of 5 candidates per seat, then the average becomes £4,308 for each contestant.
Therefore, from the dissolution of parliament to the date of the general election, (a “short campaign,”) the maximum amount a prospective MP can spend is
£500 + £11,390 + £4,308 = £16,198.
If the deposit is returned then the average drops to £15,698.
(There are separate expenditure limits for a “long campaign,” which is the period from when a general election is officially announced, to the day of the dissolution of parliament.)
Of course, how much individual candidates spend, depends entirely on the resources availed to them.
If you were to dispense with advertising costs, staff, the hiring of venues and local transport, you could probably run a campaign on a couple of hundred quid.
