A Reuters article: “Israel has destroyed two thirds of Hamas regiments, Netanyahu says”, prompted me to consider if Israel could indeed survive the current onslaught.
If the IDF had actually destroyed “two thirds of Hamas”, as Netanyahu claims, then the Palestinian resistance group would be on the verge of total collapse. Yet by Netanyahu’s own admission it “will take many more months” to secure victory over Hamas.
In other words, Netanyahu’s claim that “two thirds of Hamas” has been destroyed can be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism.
After all, in the immediate aftermath of Hama’s Oct 7 attack Netanyahu pledged to destroy Hamas. The fact that 3 months on Hamas is still a coherent fighting force presenting the IDF with stiff resistance means that it is far from beaten. Despite what Netanyahu and his ministers may claim.
The trouble is that Hamas is not the only challenge Israel faces. From Hezbollah on Israel’s northern border, to the Houthi who threaten shipping to Israel’s sole Red Sea port to the mounting anger toward it across the Muslim world, Israel faces multiple challenges on several fronts.
To make matters worse, many of Israel’s erstwhile supporters in the West are now reassessing their positions.
A recent post by former U.S. Marine Intelligence officer and UN Weapons inspector Scott Ritter is an example.
The Israeli Defence Force’s (IDF) relentless bombardment of civilian areas in Gaza has all but destroyed the myth that the IDF is the “most moral army in the world”. In the process, Israel has also alienated many of its former supporters and here I’m not talking about politicians or pundits but ordinary people on the street.
About the only people who still remain loyal to Israel are America’s bought and paid for politicians. Like President Biden and a host of U.S. politicians who owe their positions to AIPAC and various Jewish lobby groups.
Even though most of the western media is Zionist controlled or influenced, it still cannot entirely conceal the wanton slaughter Israel is engaged in.
With its international reputation in tatters, Netanyahu and his allies could find that this all develops into a genuine existential crisis for the Zionist state itself.
In other words we could be at a major turning point in history.
Accusations of ‘anti-Semitism are losing their sting, particularly when viewed in the context of the ongoing slaughter in Gaza. These allegations are more often than not used to defend Israel. Israel has destroyed around two thirds of Hamas’ fighting regiments in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, vowing to press on with the war until “complete victory.”
“There are two stages to the fighting; The first is destroying the Hamas regiments, those are their organised combat frameworks,” Netanyahu said at a news conference in Tel Aviv.
“Up until now sixteen or seventeen out of twenty four have been destroyed. After that there is the (stage) of clearing the territory (of militants). The first action is usually shorter, the second usually takes longer.”
Holding up a photo of a fallen Israeli soldier, Netanyahu said troops will not have died in vain and pledged fighting would continue until Hamas has been defeated and the hostages in Gaza recovered.
“Victory will take many more months but we are determined to achieve it,” Netanyahu said.
