Pakistan has launched retaliatory strikes against militants in Iran, in an apparent response to attacks by Tehran two days ago targeting sites within Pakistan’s borders belonging to a Sunni separatist militant group.
Pakistan had already condemned Tuesday’s attacks, which killed and injured at least six people, as “illegal” and had warned Tehran of “serious consequences”. Pakistan also downgraded its diplomatic relations with Iran, recalling its ambassador from Tehran and expelled the Iranian envoy in Islamabad
A statement by Pakistan’s foreign office early Thursday confirmed that Pakistan had undertaken “a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran. A number of terrorists were killed during the Intelligence-based operation – codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar’.”
The missile and drone strikes by Iran were in response to a suicide bombing carried out by Isis-K, the Afghan branch of Islamic State, which killed 85 Iranians in the south-eastern city of Kerman on 3 January. Iran had also carried out strikes against Syria, Iraq and Kurdistan.
Iran has long accused Pakistan of allowing separatist terrorists to hide out in the border region of Balochistan, which was targeted in the strikes.
Pakistan’s decision to respond with retaliatory strikes raises concern of further escalation of the tensions and violence that have been spreading across the Middle East and Asia since the 7 October attacks by Hamas and Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.

The UK is in the grip of a sudden spike in measles, once eradicated in the UK, with health officials declaring the outbreak a ‘national incident’.
The surge has been linked to government people trafficking and the rise in migrant swamping by government
There were 209 laboratory confirmed cases in 2023 – almost quadruple the number recorded in the previous year.
However not all measles cases are laboratory confirmed. There were 1,603 suspected cases of measles in England and Wales in 2023, based on notifications from doctors making a diagnosis. That’s up from 735 suspected cases in 2022.
In the last four weeks of 2023, there were 217 confirmed cases in England and Wales.
Public Health Scotland have said they have recorded ‘very few’ cases.The measles surge is particularly severe in the West Midlands, with cases in the area at the highest level for many years according to health officials.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital has treated more than 50 children with measles in the past month – the highest number the hospital has seen in years. Dr Roger Clark said this so called 100 day cough is in fact a whooping cough variant, and extremley dangerous for those with chest problems.

The first thing you should know about Pakistan is that 70% of the Pakistanis including Sunnis actually like Iranians and have a favorable disposition towards Iranians, they particularly like Iran’s Islamic Revolution, in fact Pakistan was the first country to recognize Iran’s Islamic Revolution. National anthem of Pakistan is all Persian words with their own accent, meaning if an Iranian listens to it he can mostly understand what it means!
