With the Women’s World Cup getting underway Thursday, CNN reported Wednesday that FIFA was still struggling to sell tickets to the monthlong event, which is being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
In an effort to turn that around, FIFA President Gianni Infantino implored New Zealanders to purchase tickets for the women’s soccer showcase.
“New Zealand, we want you. We need you,” Infantino said during a news conference Wednesday in Auckland.
“It’s never too late to do the right thing. Come to watch the matches. We need full stadiums to warm us all up,” he added, emphasizing the significance of enthusiastic support from the home crowd.
Joining Infantino was FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, who echoed his sentiments and encouraged Kiwis not to delay in securing their tickets.
“We still have tickets available for some matches, so my only plea is don’t wait until the last moment,” Samoura said.
As part of the efforts to entice fans to attend the matches, the accounting firm Xero, an official partner of the Women’s World Cup, offered 20,000 free tickets for games in New Zealand’s four host cities, according to CNN.
While the complimentary ticket allocation has been fully utilized, the remaining tickets left unsold indicate interest in the event remains low.
The exact reason is unclear.
The Associated Press noted that the country’s Football Ferns have never won a World Cup group match.
“A larger problem,” it said, “is that soccer is not generally a widely supported sport in New Zealand and attracting fans to stadiums in the coldest months of the year was always going to be a hard sell.”
In the United States, the women’s soccer team has alienated many conservative fans with liberal political rants and social justice advocacy.
Infantino, in his unwavering support for the women’s game, continued to promote the sport in an effort to sell more tickets.
He confidently addressed the skepticism people have for women’s soccer, saying, “Many people … still believe that women’s football is not, you know, great, a great game or it’s not so entertaining or it’s a kind of a bad copy of men’s football, or some stuff like that. Well, when they watch a game for the first time, they will actually see that it’s a fantastic game.”
Infantino’s claim that women’s soccer is on an equal footing with the men’s game has been undermined by matches where top women’s teams have lost to amateur men and even boys.
Adding to the significance of this Women’s World Cup, FIFA has moved to bring players’ pay closer to what the men receive in the World Cup.
FIFA is ensuring direct payments to the female participants, marking the first time in history that such compensation is guaranteed. Each player participating in the tournament will receive a minimum of $30,000 from a record $110 million prize pot.
According to a March news release, Infantino said that “a total package of USD 152 million would be on offer at this year’s tournament – three times more than at the previous FIFA Women’s World Cup in France four years ago and over 10 times more than the amount offered at the 2015 tournament in Canada.”
The move reflects the efforts of the USWNT and others in lobbying for equal pay despite the undeniable reality that women’s soccer generates less revenue and has a smaller fan base than men’s soccer.

This of course assumes that the females playing are actually genetically female LOL.
As to the discernment or otherwise of “football fans”, they have no trouble howling for Man U or Liverpool or Everton etc. even though very few of the players are actually English and all feature a nice selection of negroes from Africa. And of course we all remember the “French” world cup winning team that featured an overwhelming number of negroes.
Maybe strip soccer might attract more attention. It would definitely appeal to the mentality of the average “football fan”.
I tried to watch the Australian v Ireland game, I managed approx 20 minutes before turning it off. This was my first ( and only ) time of viewing a woman’s football game, never again. I would rather go down to the local park and watch a local men’s team play. I also get annoyed at having to hear some woman commentating on a football match, it always sounds as though they have got some young boy to talk.
Same as when watching a PL game, why do we have a woman asking the ex-players on the panel what they think.

Women’s football isn’t even remotely a new sport, and it’s always had low attendance. Why? You’d have to ask a football dunce, but I imagine they’re not as “good” at kicking a ball around as the men. It’s the same for all women’s sports – except, unsurprisingly, things like the non sport of mud wrestling, because of all the perverts amongst the male population.
Holding the thing in the middle of winter with ten degree temperatures is also a demented thing to do, but they’re only doing it for the sheckels anyway, so as long as profit is made they’ll be happy.

This is an interesting topic because the bible specifically notes that women should be subservient to their husband. More so, a woman is subservient to her boss, who may more than likely be a male, so why should she not be to her husband?
And this is where we have the problems today, with feminism, destroying the patriarchy, the way of life that existed for thousands upon thousands of years. But why? Well, the Jews, as I’ve stated on here many times, are the progeny of Judah and Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. The Canaanites all lived under a matriarchy, that is unlike in a patriarchy, the lineage was passed down by the mother. And we know that the Jews follow this.
So, we have seen a rebellion against man and the patriarchy. We have seen women attaining more positions of power and influence. And now look at society now that it’s no longer under the patriarchy?
Man brings order (unless you’re a Jew) and women bring chaos. Therefore in order for chaos to not ensue within society, man MUST dominate woman and keep her in check and this is precisely what the bible tells us of the relationship between men and women.
And Brian, women’s PRIMARY function, in life is the birthing and raising of children. They are emotional. They are ruled by the heart and have the necessary skills to do the job of raising the young and looking after the sick and elderly. It’s in their very psyche to do so. Men are NOT. Well not unless you’re a homosexual.
Men and women ARE NOT equal and they never, ever will be. Two things that are so uniquely different are, by default, not equal. When we see the promotion of equality we see the decline of civilization and this is PRECISELY what communism is – equality, bringing excellence down the level of mediocre so that no one can feel bad for being inferior. This is why they have the “there are no losers in sports at schools. Everyone is a winner” and then they all pass out the medals. All of this is programming to precisely where we are today with the mess that society is in.

You are all mistaken. Women’s football is fantastic. I’ve watched the last three Women’s World Cups. At an international level, amongst top-tier nations, women’s football has become increasingly skilful and passionate.
England are second favourites to win this tournament, after the USA.
We gave the US a good game in the semi-finals of the last world cup. We were unlucky. We can beat them.
The one problem with women’s football, isn’t an issue of the game itself but of its television coverage. I have noticed that the tv cameras recently, are much less reluctant to focus on the women’s bums during play, than they used to be.
This is, indeed, a regrettable development.
I cannot give a hoot about football/soccer even as a men-only game. But surely it is true that to make the required movements, a woman need a man’s muscle bulk. And with a man’s muscle bulk, a woman ceases to look like a woman. The show-power of that is what?
They need to stop trying to convince us that women’s football, is any good. Any idiot can see that it’s sub standard with laughable levels of fitness, skill and technique. It’s not liked not because they’re women. It’s just because it’s total shite.

I watch non-league football. I’m not ashamed of it. I wasn’t born in London, Liverpool or Manchester. I support my home town team.
And let me tell you, semi-professional football, is excrutiatingly bloody awful to watch. There are forwards with beer bellies and midfielders who haven’t passed through puberty yet; wingers with smoker’s coughs and central defenders whose notion of a fair tackle, is headbutting the opposition striker.
Watching non-league football doesn’t impede upon my consideration of more serious matters.
My team’s win record is patchy but I don’t care. It’s just recreation, after all. It’s sport. It’s British.
