The now-missing CEO of a company that takes passengers onboard a submersible to see the site of the Titanic wreckage once told how he refused to hire ’50-year-old white guys’ with military expertise because they are not ‘inspirational.’

Stockton Rush added in that interview with Teledyne Marine that expertise is not necessary because ‘anybody can drive the sub’ with just a $30 video game controller.
In another interview, Rush insisted the Cyclops vessel he designed before the doomed Titan was ‘invulnerable,’ saying he was willing to ‘put my money where my mouth is.’
Rush, the 61-year-old CEO of OceanGate Expeditions, is now missing onboard his Titan ship along with four other passengers, including British billionaire Hamish Harding, French Titanic expert Paul-Henry Nargeolet and Shahzada Dawood, a UK-based board member of the Prince’s Trust charity, along with his son Sulaiman Dawood.
The vessel had not been heard from since early Sunday morning, and officials fear those on board now have less than a day of oxygen left.
It has since been revealed that OceanGate refused to put the Titan through independent testing and fired a director who asked for more rigorous safety testing.

The day before the news reached us about the lost submersible, Titan, I had watched the film, “Kursk,” a dramatization of the disastrous, accidental, sinking of the Russian nuclear-powered submarine, Kursk, in August 2000.
It was a difficult film to watch. Not because it wasn’t a good film; with high production values, excellent acting and biting dialogue but because there’s little point in investing hope in the outstanding heroics of 23 men, who survived for a week in a single chamber of the ship; constantly having to drain water, pump air, put out fires, attend to injuries, while dealing with hunger and hypothermia, when you already know, unfortunately, that there were no survivors among the crew of the good ship, Kursk.
The British/ Norwegian rescue mission, which Putin had originally refused to sanction, arrived just hours too late. All 115 men on board died.
As someone who was born and brought up on a briny coastline, with friends and relatives, who are professional fishermen or merchant seamen, I know very well that Poseidon is a potentate that you do not sport with frivolously.
I pray that the passengers and pilot of the Titan survive.
There is a high price to pay for taking the sea for granted.
I sincerely hope that price will not be paid.
Should it be so then at least they will not be alone in Davey Jones’ Locker.

As a 50 year old “white guy,” I am grateful I continue to exist while you rot on the ocean floor.

The first thing I thought was that Biden – who’s admin is a never ending raging dumpster fire – needs a distraction. Most people would not believe that the government would kill innocent people just to take the heat off of them.
Like that Russian gas pipeline – no one knows what is really going on down there.
Same for the moon landing. How do you know they went to the moon? You do not know and can not know until someone outside of NASA takes photos of the Apollo landing sites, and even then you can’t be sure.

I can’t understand why they didn’t have a support vessel nearby ready to bring the sub back to the surface!
andyay–I twice listened to MrBallen’s account of the Kursk and its crew, and I keep reading about the Titanic and the Titan with their supernatural aspect. Ships can be ghosts just as people can, and this period is a little haunting by the Titanic again. I postpone checking to see whether the five in the submersible survived

A debris field has been found in the area this submersible was believed to be lost so it’s not looking good. I was surprised to learn the sub was a composite of several materials including carbon fibre. That is strong, light material with many modern applications but it should never have replaced steel in this construction. You might get away with it three miles high but at three miles deep they should never have tried it.

“Titan” was the name of a ship in a novel that magically or with insider knowledge pre-figured all the real events of the Titanic. In this case, the ghost of the Titanic may have appeared before instead of after its reality
