The US had proposed that Turkey send to Ukraine the S-400 air defense system it bought from Russia, but Ankara refused, Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Sunday.
“The US asked us to send the S-400s to Ukraine, and we said no,” Cavusoglu was cited as saying by state news agency Anadolu, and he added that such proposals were unacceptable as they sought to infringe on Turkish sovereignty.
Turkey’s purchase of the Russian S-400 has been a point of contention with the US and NATO for years, as they cited concerns that it would compromise the security and interoperability of NATO’s military operations. The US and NATO have warned Turkey that the S-400 system is not compatible with NATO’s defense systems and could expose sensitive information to Russia.
As a result of Turkey’s refusal to back down from the deal, the US has taken several punitive measures, including suspending Turkey from the F-35 fighter jet program in 2019 and imposing sanctions on Turkish officials and entities involved in the purchase of the S-400.
The ongoing dispute has strained the relationship between Turkey and its NATO allies and raised questions about Turkey’s strategic alignment in the region.
Asked about a possible return to the F-35 program, Cavusoglu said: “Ankara does not want to return to the program but rather wants back from Washington the money it paid for fighter jets before it was out of the program, while its jets were never delivered.”
He added that Turkey wants to improve its ties with the US, pointed to its current interest in buying F-16 jets and modernization kits.
In October 2021, Ankara requested F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits from the US in a deal worth $6 billion. The proposed deal included 40 new F-16 fighter jets and modernization kits for 79 existing Turkish F-16s.
While Joe Biden’s administration expressed its support of the F-16 sale to Turkey, it has faced opposition from Congress which has expressed concerns over Ankara’s human rights record and contentious foreign policy such as in Syria.

“…the US has taken several punitive measures, including…” causing massive earthquakes if Turkey doesn’t comply.
Anyone that sees the F-35 as a good jet to have, is nothing but a turkey that has had its head cut off and is currently running around the yard as wild as can be. Those that have seen how a chicken runs around when its head has been cut off, know of what I speak.
Turkey would be making a wise decision if it were to purchase the SU-35s from Russia: a plane that can outfly any Western jet in the sky. Don’t be like foolish Canada and other nations that have decided to purchase F-35s from the States, as any knowledgable person knows is carbage and a complete waste of money/
The Treaty of Laussane expires this year. Just saying. Turkey has a part in endtimes prophecies as well. Jesus LIVES!!!!!
I first write my comment based on the title only, and then read the article afterwards just for fun:
What better evidence can one get that NATO is well dead and berried?
“…concerns that it would compromise the security and interoperability of NATO’s military operations.” is an understatement, but of course a dying Empire wouldn’t want to admit defeat too early, Brian is absolutely right though, the coalition of Muslim and Christian armies to fight the Antichrist, as Sheikh Imran Hosein often mentioned when talking about End Times, looks more like Turkish and Russian, than any other.
According to Judging Freedom, a NATO bunker in Western UKraine was hit by a Russian hypersonic missile.
The bunker was around 100m under ground, yet the missile did considerable damage, and may have destroyed it outright.
This bunker was staffed by high end NATO commanders, including US GENERALS!! Happy days.
Also, keep in mind that nothing was spared to protect this facility, yet one hypersonic weapon obliterated a high end NATO command post.
As the guest on Judging Freedom says, the deep state are very effective at keeping this kind of story out of the Western fake news, but he goes on to say, ‘Many local (to the bunker) fake news outlets, report that the story is true, but it could take some time for details to surface.
Bonus news, Brits were killed.
Me, I’d say this kind of strike against NATO facilities is more common than we know, and that Russia has made hitting NATO forces in the theater, a priority.
As to the Turks saying no, there’s a good chance Erdogan will lose the election, so maybe things will change, but I don’t believe Turks want their country siding with the US.
With Syria now back in the Arab League, it’s only a matter of time before the US to pulls out its 200 troops from Syria and stops stealing Syrian oil. All of this is massively bad for Israel as their guardian angel is forced out of the Middle East. Israel is moving into a bad place, and as I’ve said over the last few years, Israel is on borrowed time. Don’t be surprised if Iran gets hypersonic tech through back channels!
Ankara is playing a double game., but Erdogan might be out of his depth this time.
There is a big load of anti-Westernism in Turkey, coming as much from the Islamists as from the nationalists. This is a strong aspect of the currently dominant Erdoganism in this country. But the elections are upon them: 14 May! And President Erdogan has a rival: the leader of the (combined) opposition parties, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who has a definite ‘West is Best’ inclination. It is not a given that Erdogan will not be defeated by him.
To my mind, it would be a pity if Erdogan does lose the presidency. Under his watch, and despite the country’s ongoing economic problems, the Erdogan-Putin empathy has proved rewarding for both countries. On the other hand, the West has kept Turkey at a squeamish arm’s distance ever since Kemal Ataturk all but fell at its feet.
Imagine if Britain kept its inventions to itself instead of letting all the monkeys imitate!
