The Englund Gambit is surprisingly difficult to refute over the board.
The judgement for any chess player is to try and play the objective best moves or seek less familiar lines that have a modicum of soundness. Bobby Fischer famously sought “chess truth”. Many British players of GM status have sought more practical original choices that fool lower levels players but have left them unable to scale the Mt Everest of chess. I’m finally moving on from the chess objectivity school and seeking lower mountains to climb 🙂
