This study found that the brains of blacks, compared to the brains of whites, have more disorders that are common in people with Alzheimer’s, and that blacks’ brains start shrinking earlier.

Oxford University was founded in 1096. Mali was a French colony. The British were not greatly involved in the Sudan, beyond the governor generalship of Charles George Gordon who was appointed to the post by the Egyptian ruler of the Sudan, Isma’il Pasha (with British Crown approval.)
Major-General Gordon vigorously opposed the enslavement of indigenous peoples by Arabic slave traders in North Africa and he did his best to try to extinguish slave commerce. He failed, dying during the seige of Timbuktu, in 1885, by the rebel alliance of Arabs, Dervishes and Ottomans.
I wouldn’t seek to lionize Gordon, though. Despite French attempts to portray him otherwise, Charles Gordon was certainly a courageous man but he was also a poofter, unfortunately.
