So may we infer from Scott Ritter’s words that there will be no NATO intervention on Ukraine’s behalf? Instead, the West will leave the Russians to sort out the Ukrainian present and future? That, if it is indeed in the offing, will be a good thing. because the Ukrainians will have learned that throwing your lot in with the West against Russia is suicidal, for the West’s promises cannot be trusted. The Ukrainian population will be properly fed and clothed by Russia. The AZOV types will be seriously restrained, if not totally annihilated. And the oligarchs’ properties and other assets stolen from the Ukrainian state will be nationalised. Ukrainian enterprise will be free to flourish, now without the competition of the foreign-financed oligarchs. Good luck to them
But what is to happen to the 10 million-plus Ukrainians, mostly women and children, who are now refugees in Europe? Will there be room for them to return to the rump Ukraine of which Poland has repossessed a good junk? These women will want to return if their soldier sons, husbands and fathers are still alive. What is to happen to them if they are not allowed to return? To my mind, their condition is the big tragedy of this war.

Scott Ritter is living in a ww2 fantasy world if he believes the american soldier today is top notch. A top notch “woke” army is impossible. The americans in Iraq faced nothing like what the Russians are facing in Ukraine. Iraq was a 3rd world nation with a 3rd world army when the US invaded in 1991, and just a rump of 3rd world country in 2003. If the US had faced an allied and massively equipped army like the Ukraine army, they wouldn’t be beating their chest about their “victory” over a small impoverished nation in the backward middle east.
