I think Russia expects the US and NATO, to enter Western UKraine. US troops are already in Western UKraine, under the false guise that they are monitoring NATO weapons shipments, but at such a late stage, when many weapons have already been sold on to other entities.
The purpose of putting a small military presence in Western UKraine, is to find locations to establish much larger bases.
This is why the Russians have moved Migs to forward bases and why they launched a small mobilisation. From reports within Russia, it does not appear to be a 600k call up, but this could happen. I think the US are going call Russias bluff.
