The forgiveness only works with faith as in the Protestant denominations and not just for telling you sins, but also unless you have a firm purpose of amendment you are not forgiven. The problem of all the major denominations are those who belong for some kind of temporal status. Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau, many lay people in my church would simply like to see them excommunicated. However, saying that crooks and many of those working for our governments and the miliary who are no better than the worst crooks in the Mafia, should not belong to a religious faith, is to say that there is no hope for them in that faith despite the contradictions, and that seems rather narrow minded as far as I can see.
