It’s not just sitting in a cold house and washing in cold water that will be a problem for many. They’ll have no hot food, no hot tea or coffee. There’s now price-gouging on camp-stove solid fuel and gels in rip-off Britain, so perhaps people are rush-buying these provisions now as the bigger picture becomes ever clearer.
I’m wary of liquid fuel in the flat so I only have a bit and maybe my solid fuel supplies will be enough. All I have to do is outlast those who have little in way of supplies and my reinforced door should keep the wolves at bay. Water supply stoppage may be the first problem, and as my spare water could freeze I’ll have to pour some out of each bottle so hopefully they’ll expand safely. I bought some glass flagons so the stored water tastes better than in the plastic soda bottles I originally used. That was before the prospect of a frozen winter thanks to the US, but bubble-wrap should keep the harsh cold off them.
