1/ Observe the maxim of “If you can’t beat them join them”. Become like the traitor in the “Matrix” who negotiates with “Mr Smith” to be let in and become someone “important” in the illusion like a “film director”. I have relatives like this.
2/ Oppose the system and become grist for the mill of those who can pervert your words and deeds in order to paint you as black. In “1984” terms, become an “agent of Goldstein.” This is the path the passionate walk; it is something I recognise from my own experiences, as does Orwell who laments the failure of the plebs to recognise the evils of the system. Mass action is futile since a revolution is either defeated or hijacked.
3/ Somehow resist the system of control and treat current society as part of a dystopian nightmare. A nightmare of injustice and stupidity. If you can’t have justice then use the system as far as you can for your own survival, trusting that any imposed control system that needs to peddle in lies cannot possibly be permanent. And despite the futility of individual egoism opposing the system, simply accept things as they are and just carry on putting one foot in front of the other.
