The latest test of a US hypersonic missile in the state of Hawaii failed on Wednesday, the Pentagon said, attributing the failure to an “anomaly” during the first test of the full system.
The failed test was part of the Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, under which aerospace and military equipment company Lockheed Martin is trying to develop weapons capable of flying at super high speeds for use on submarines and ships.
The test, carried out at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii, was supposed to launch the Common Hypersonic Glide Body atop a two-stage missile booster.
The booster is designed to launch the system and accelerate it to hypersonic speeds above Mach 5, at which point the glide body detaches and uses its speed to reach the target. It was the first time the entire system was tested, called an All Up Round test.
“While the Department was unable to collect data on the entirety of the planned flight profile, the information gathered from this event will provide vital insights,” Pentagon spokesman Tim Gorman said in a statement.
He did not provide any additional details on the nature of the anomaly or at what stage of the test it occurred, adding that the Pentagon is currently investigating the reasons for the failure of this missile test.
In October 2021, a similar test failed in Kodiak, Alaska. Despite the failure of both tests, the Pentagon has expressed confidence to develop offensive hypersonic capabilities by the early 2020s.
“Delivering hypersonic weapons remains a top priority and the Department remains confident that it is on track to field offensive and defensive hypersonic capabilities on target dates beginning in the early 2020s,” the Pentagon spokesman stated.
The Pentagon has focused its attention recently on hypersonic weapons development amid concerns that the country could lag behind the Chinese and Russian programs.
China successfully tested a hypersonic weapon last year that orbited the globe before striking its target. Russia has also greatly developed its hypersonic weapons in recent years.
The latest test failure, which was first reported by Bloomberg, has dealt another blow to the US in the race to develop hypersonic missiles.

I worked at Douglas Aircraft, back in the 80’s; with a negro chap, nice enough bloke, but he didn’t know what either sine or cosine were. And he had a degree in mechanical engineering, a masters no less, from USC (university of southern California). He came to me to ask for help resolving a simple vector problem, he couldn’t resolve a simple vector into its X and Y components, and you don’t need to be very gifted at maths to do it either. When I mentioned sine and cosine (you multiply the magnitude of the vector by the respective sine and cosine of the angle to get the components), as most all of you know here, without being technical people, he simply asked, “what are sine and cosine of an angle”. I mean, the mind boggles even more than with the covid farce. There really are many, MANY stupid people around. Add some viagra to that rocket fuel, it would be as good a solutions as those “affirmative action” hires would be able to come up with. Unfortunately, I am probably not joking about the situation there.

A person with a masters degree in mechanical engineering should know what sine and cosine of an angle are, it is basic and taught in high school or even in junior high school. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get through mechanical engineering, or civil engineering, or electrical engineering, or any type of maths or science related degree, without knowing sine, cosine (an tangent) of an angle are. They are used EVERYWHERE in these fields. He didn’t know what they were when I explained to him how to resolve a VERY SIMPLE problem, how to resolve a vector (load at an angle) into its horizontal and vertical components. There is only ONE way to get through without knowing sine and cosine, and that is being VERY STUPID and VERY BLACK, as in his professor were afraid to fail him because of the consequences of being called rayciss. I am especially proud of my German half, and lived 2 years in Germany (1989 and 1990) where I really brought my German into form. I still know German really well after 30 years away, because I LOVE the older Germanic peoples and culture. Modern homoglobo Germany, not so much. We are not enemies my friend, I love a certain Austrian chap with the initials AH, and I know all three verses of the Horst Wessel Lied by heart. The only thing I disagree with AH, is the way he treated fellow Europeans, especially the Slavic people and the Greeks, French too, the English were already brotherly peoples, he just responded to their provocations. The Russians (people not government) would have been AH’s absolute truest allies, if he hadn’t been so stupid as to try to exterminate them. The Greeks I have known are very good people too, it is a tragedy what they did with Greece. So Antivax, I am a friend of yours and people that think like you, I LOVE your postings. The second problem is that “Lockheed Martin” which, translated from the language of the military-industrial complex means “to wildly overcharge for grossly deficient products we don’t give a f*ck work or not”.
