Although I was aware of the kapparot festival, I was ignorant of its esoteric significance. Upon your prompting, I have been researching its occulted meaning.
Among the mundane detail, I discovered that, in Manhattan alone, 50,000 cockerels and hens are ritually butchered every yom kippur. The birds are starved and deprived of water during the approach to the festival and kept tightly packed in cages, so that they’re too weak to fight back, once they’re removed, to be swung thrice round the head of the devotée, before being put to death, according to the strictures of halakah.

I do wonder, however, if a prayer to vicariously render your sins upon poultry, amounts to foreclosure upon karma. Is expiation cognate with karma? I would say no, not usually, but there is a better case here, in recognition of the fact that the atonement, is for deeds the devout may indulge, during the coming year.

I agree with you that the jews were privy to the Vedic and Avestan libraries and emulated their grandeur in their own lesser literatures. However, I feel that their acquaintance with these more ancient texts began during the period of Babylonian captivity. I’ve written on this subject a few times before and it’s my assessment that the influence of the Vedas and of Zoroastrianism on judaism is only apparent from the time of the second temple onwards.
Is the significance of the Seal of Solomon (which, I understood, can be depicted both as a pentagram and as a hexagram) – that, King Solomon could control demons with his signature ring? If so, I’m uncertain as to how that might relate to karma, except perhaps as manifest in the eventual collapse of the kingdom he’d built.
That the jews are practitioners of the black arts is, of course, undisputable.
I would be fascinated if you could offer any additional information, hp. Is there a particular Vedic text from which the Kapparot derives or that it mirrors in some way? Is there a Vedic prayer for future atonement of ill-deeds?

I read both of your links with interest and bookmarked them for future reference.
I’m not sure where to begin. My original contention was that, as far as I knew, there were no theistical black magic tradition which espoused karma as a cosmic law.
In the second article linked, the author tells us that minor Siddhis, learned from Tantra-Shastra (i.e. from Tantra basics,) and pursuant of material ends, expresses as “ghost worship” which is considered to be a black magic practice in Hinduism, in that it is a misappropriation of Siddhi, as understood by the Rishis who wrote the Vedas. Tantrists put great stock upon incantation and gesture, so yes, absolutely, I can see similarities there, with Talmudists and such ritualistic invocations and actions as they use on Kapparot. This, however, has nothing to do with karma, (although it’s got quite a lot to do with kama.)
You see, in the Vedic tradition, the Siddhi of the black arts, were all bound to a unitary but lesser known Vedic heterodoxy, called the Carvaka tradition.
Carvaka is known to be among the earliest strains of Vedism and is said to have been a consideration in the compilation of the sanskrit canon by the Rishis. No Caravaka texts survive from antiquity, however, but it’s influence is discernable throughout the history of Vedism, aspecting in both scripture and law.
Carvaka is the sinistral, materialist, inversion of Brahmanism which can be fairly compared to Luciferianism of the West. As is typical of the left-hand path, Carvaka is best defined by what it stands in opposition to. So, in the black magic of Vedic India, Carvaka is the rejection and renunciation of dharma and karma, samsara, moksa and nirvana.
There is no karmic return in the Vedic black arts. Here’s a link, should you be interested, about Carvaka, which, incidentally means “smooth talkers” which is a rather befitting comparative to draw with the jews. All the best.
