There are many “men of action” (in Joseph Conrad’s work), who are diagnosed with terminal illness every year. Many of these are single, with no immediate family ties. I find it incredulous that nobody in this category, with nothing to lose, does not take direct action in the manner of Japanese pilots and of so many instances of Japanese history.
