The “book” was put together after the life of Jesus, otherwise there would not have been a book as there would have been no one to select the various OT scriptures for anything but fragmented and diverse purposes. Those Christian-selected scriptures from the early Jewsih converts endured ever since. They were initially most likely written for a number of purposes but the main one being the spiritual one in order to maintain the supernatural connection of the Hebrew people to the true God. Their monotheism and purity laws also a spin off effect of distinguishing them from other tribes enabling them to maintain an incredible solidarity.
They did compare themselves to the Gentiles and made the most audacious claim in history of being the chosen people of God for a mission and purpose that was not quite clear just as their concept of the true nature of God was not quite clear as their scriptures show. If the contests is to be between either Arians, Jews or any people or tribe striving to be dominant because they think they are “superior”, thinking that their chosinness is some kind of divine ticket to riches and power, then all they would be doing is causing more resentment, hate, wars, and strife.
