Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that post-war Ukraine will be like a “big Israel” and won’t be “liberal” like Europe.
“Ukraine will definitely not be what we wanted it to be from the beginning. It is impossible. Absolutely liberal, European — it will not be like that. It [Ukraine] will definitely come from the strength of every house, every building, every person,” Zelensky said. “We will become a ‘big Israel’ with its own face.”
The Ukrainian leader said he expects society to be highly militarized. “We will not be surprised if we have representatives of the Armed Forces or the National Guard in cinemas, supermarkets, and people with weapons. I am confident that the question of security will be the issue number one for the next 10 years. I am sure of it,” he added,” he said.
Zelensky insisted that such measures wouldn’t threaten democracy and wouldn’t turn Ukraine into an authoritarian state. “An authoritarian state would lose to Russia. People know what they are fighting for,” he said.
However, since the war started, Zelensky has prohibited military-age males from leaving Ukraine, banned 11 opposition political parties, and nationalized the media. Hawks in the US often tout Ukraine as a “liberal democracy” worth defending, and President Biden has framed the conflict in Russia as a battle between “autocracy” and “democracy.”
So liberal equals tyrannical, so all is well in the world.
I’m not praising Israel, but the fact is pre Covid and the EU was the model which the non EU Western world aspired to.
With Covid papers please, and now the theft of sovereign assets and the literal abuse of individual sheeple is alarming. Oligarchs haven’t been charged with crimes, they’ve not been successfully prosecuted in court. So, to see so say democratic regimes attack these sheeple is disturbing, when owned property used to be sacrosanct.

If you listen to Zelensky and other UKrainian politicians, I can’t understand why they still feel attached to the EU model, I’m baffled.
I am not sure if Zelensky feels that close to the US anymore, and his problem is that he’s invited the Russians in, his country has taken an almighty battering, and he’s learnt his lesson, but now feels trapped, between a rock and a hard place. His best option is a deal with Russia. But it is about timing, staying alive long enough to pull off a deal, and being protected by a Russian snatch squad.
There’s going to be a massacre in the Dombas. Very unlikely that the Azov Battalion will surrender early, because they all know that when captured, they face trials and executions for their parts in the Dombas genocide.
