The movie Demolition Man takes place in 2032, in an oppressive society managed by a tyrannical doctor who rose to power after an epidemic and social unrest. Watching this movie today is an eerie experience as the “jokes” of the past are the realities of today. Here’s a look at the incredible predictions made by this movie made 30 years ago.

When I want to relax and take my mind off things, I like to watch movies from the 20th century, especially the 1990s. As someone who grew up in this magical decade, immersing myself in 90s nostalgia is like a balm to my soul. I mean, everything about the 90s was better. Fun things were fun. Cool things were cool. And, in my opinion, society was just saner and happier.
So when I recently came across the 1993 movie Demolition Man, I could not resist. Is there something more 90s than Wesley Snipes fighting Sylvester Stallone while wearing denim overalls?
But watching this movie in 2022 ended up being a bizarre, mind-bending experience.
First, the movie takes place in 2032, which is only ten years from now. In other words, we are currently much closer to the “future” of the movie than to the year it was actually made. Second, the “future” depicted in the movie pinpoints, with near-prophetic accuracy, everything wrong in society right now. And it is ridiculing it – as if it is laughing at us from the past.

My picks are Running Man and Logans Run. But there are so many, and Logans Run are way before the 90s. While I no longer watch movies, and haven’t do so for years, I would, and will watch the latest Bond flick just to keep up with MI6, because I think they have a lot of influence on the messages in the flim.
There’s quite a good selection of sci-fi movies, mostly on YouTube about after SHTF, no doubt the budgets are very low, but the stories are pretty good when you factor in the fact they need to be watchable. They are rarely feature length.
The book was from the 1950s and was called The Demolished Man, the last violent man in the world. It was a paedo paradise with no masculine men, but still technological. MK Ultra and telepathy were prevalent. The book seemed to have secret NASA knowledge. Author Alfred Bester.
‘Predicted’ or predictive programming? The similarities are too close for prediction. Like Orwell, Huxley and Wells this director knows the future already. Remember, with most of these films, other than 1984, Brazil & Planet of the Apes (off the top of my head), there is always a rescue/happy ending.
Actually a more prescient film delineating the future is ‘Johnny Mnemonic’ (1995) set in 2021 where a pandemic is plaguing the planet in a cybernetic world…
Also the author of this article (Vigilant Citizen) describes the government of the State in ‘Demolition Man’ as ‘fascist’, not realizing its actually ‘Judeo-Communism’ he’s criticizing.
Fascism represents the health & liberation of the gentile masses from Jewish control of the State (Communism); while Communism represents their degeneration, liquidation & enslavement to it, which is the political system exemplified in the movie ‘Demolition Man’..
I think there were a few errors in the movie. Weapons from museums don’t work. I liked the rat meat burgers though.
From the Horse’s mouth ?? The Reality ?

John Carpenter made “Escape From New York” about the time Ronald Reagan was pulling the bottom out of the US economy for real.
But forget the title — if you saw the 2020 footage and compare it to Carpenter’s “New York” it’s hard not to notice it’s almost a perfect match.
More to the point, the movie shows the US as being in war all the time, hence the rot and crime, exact match for the nation now. And President Donald Pleasence (who Carpenter reports loved the role) had to be rescued by a convict-veteran Snake Plissken, played by Kurt Russell.
The whole of “Escape from New York” looks like 2020 almost perfectly, right down to the black mobster who runs the city and the homos and flotsam floating on the barbaric streets. How did Carpenter guess?
For a few years I enjoyed watching Escape From New York, but with Snake Plissken landing his glider on the roof one of the Twin Towers to get inside New York’s walls their destruction put the film out of date for me.
Franz,
“How did Carpenter guess?”
Because he was ‘in on the know’ as they say. In the film ‘They Live’ nearing the end, the two main characters crash a celebratory dinner attended by the aliens and their humans who serve them (jews and shabbos goyim). In the speech, given by one of the humans, he states that the agenda will be finished by 2025. Really? That’s an incredibly wild guess to be spot on to what’s going on now isn’t it?
Even though he denies it, well, you don’t get to become a big, Hollywood film director, unless you ‘kiss the bagel’.
In the book, society has made it illegal to believe in sun, moon, stars, planets and Space itself, and I am surprised to see MK Ultra psychos like the “200 proofs” yoga teacher attempting this teaching in the 2022 real world.
Soylent Green is about Agenda 21 and the movie takes place in 2022. Logan’s Run and the original Rollerball are also about this agenda.
I’ve always considered Demolition Man one of the most imaginative, smartest, and underrated movies of the 1990s. The prescience it displayed is just shocking. On top of that the movie was very entertaining and actually hilarious in an ironic way. I think people have recently rediscovered what a smart movie Demolition Man was because we can now see how spot on it was in its depiction of the future USA. I place the movie in the pantheon of “B” movies that became classics by their understated intelligence, imagination, and farsightedness…movies like Soylent Green, Robo Cop, and They Live.
@ White Elephant —
You’re probably right because Carpenter always sold himself as a movie “outsider” or “independent” but he always had the money and the use of the studios he wanted so… something didn’t add up.
But the street scenes in Escape From New York look exactly like the fires and fights and lawlessness we saw all over in 2020. Still a bit impressed.
I ll try again–Flat Earth is part of a very sinister agenda associated with NASA , Nazism, mind kontrol; and Alfred Bester knew about it. Stallone took the book, in which the hero fails, like Winston Smith, and gave it a macho ending (and title).
