  4.  » Professor Neil Ferguson says lockdown ‘hard to rule out’ as Omicron set to overtake Delta before Christmas

Introduction – Dec 8, 2021

This is getting beyond a joke. Professor Neil Ferguson has an appalling record when it comes to predicting threats to public health. In fact his computer-generated projections are consistently alarmist and woefully wrong:

In 2001 he predicted 130,000 deaths from Mad Cow Disease. There were in fact 200.

In 2002 Prof. Ferguson predicted 50,000 deaths in the UK from Mad Cow Disease. There were in fact 177 but as a result of his warnings literally millions of cattle and sheep were slaughtered.

In 2005 Prof. Ferguson predicted 150 million deaths from Bird Flu. There were actually 282.

Then to top it all in May 2020 he warned that as many as 500,000 could die of Covid-19 in Britain alone.

With such a poor track record you would think that the government and the media would consult other “experts” on public health instead of Professor Lockdown. Yet the media are still hanging on to every pronouncement from this thoroughly discredited “expert”. Why?

Why is he getting so such extensive media coverage when he’s been proven wrong time and again?

Is the media actually working to stoke public anxiety over the new variant? That’s a serious question because why else would they give so much airtime to an “expert” whose predictions have proven to be so consistently wrong in the past?

Given his track record it’s worth asking if Ferguson has been wheeled out to prepare the public to accept further lockdowns to contain the threat allegedly posed Omicron?

Indeed, the fact that Ferguson says that it’s “hard to rule out” another lockdown suggests that the UK government may be contemplating imposing some new restrictions. They may just be using Professor Ferguson to test the waters and gauge public reaction before imposing a new lockdown over Christmas. Ed.

Professor Neil Ferguson says lockdown ‘hard to rule out’ as Omicron set to overtake Delta before Christmas

The new Covid variant Omicron is likely to overtake the UK’s dominant strain Delta before Christmas if cases continue to increase at the current rate, a Government adviser has said.

Professor Neil Ferguson, head of the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Imperial College London and a member of the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), has been analysing data on Omicron.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme in a personal capacity, Professor Ferguson said: “Case numbers of Omicron are doubling at least every three days, maybe even every two days at the moment so it’s accelerating very fast.”

He said the variant was increasing at the same rate, if not faster, as the original strain that emerged last year.

“It’s likely to overtake Delta before Christmas at this rate, precisely when is harder to say. We’ll start seeing an impact on overall case numbers.

“It’s still probably only 2, 3 per cent of all cases so it’s kind of swamped but within a week or two we’ll start see overall case numbers accelerate quite markedly as well,” he told the programme.

Asked if a lockdown in the new year could be ruled out, Professor Ferguson said: “At the moment it’s very difficult to rule out anything. We really haven’t got a good enough handle on the threat.

“Clearly if the consensus is it is highly likely that the NHS is going to be overwhelmed then it will be for the government to decide what it wants to do about that but it’s a difficult situation to be in of course.”

He added: “It certainly might be possible at the current time.”
