Few people in the United States or other developed nations view American democracy as an example for the rest of the world to follow, a Pew Research Center survey released Tuesday shows.
In the Global Attitudes Survey this spring, Pew asked 18,850 adults in 17 advanced economies, including the United States, about their views of American society and politics. Countries surveyed included Britain, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and South Korea.
“Very few in any public surveyed think American democracy is a good example for other countries to follow,” Pew’s report said. Outside the United States, a median of 17 percent said U.S. democracy set a good example for other countries to follow, while 57 percent said U.S. democracy “used to be a good example, but has not been in recent years.” An additional 23 percent said the United States has never been a good example for democracy.
Respondents in the United States were just about as negative — with 19 percent saying American democracy provided a good example. A further 72 percent said their country “used to be a good example” of a democracy for the world, but “has not been in recent years.”
People in Taiwan, Italy and Greece were the most positive about the state of American democracy; Singapore, Australia and New Zealand the least.
The survey, which was conducted over the phone and online from Feb. 1 to May 26, came after President Trump spread the false claim that he, not President Biden, won the November election, and after a pro-Trump mob rampaged inside the U.S. Capitol. The Jan. 6 rioters trapped lawmakers and vandalized the Capitol in the worst desecration of the complex since British forces burned it in 1814.
Despite criticism of U.S. democracy overall, a median of 60 percent across 16 countries said the U.S. government respects the personal freedoms of its people, far higher than 8 percent who said China respects its people’s personal freedoms in the same survey.
The survey also revealed a sharp partisan divide among U.S. respondents. Democrats and independents who lean toward the Democratic Party were twice as likely as Republicans and independents who lean toward the Republican Party to say American democracy has never been a good model for other countries to follow, Pew noted.
Globally, America’s international reputation had improved since the election of President Biden, the report said, with a median of 75 percent saying they had confidence Biden would do the right thing in world affairs, compared with the 17 percent who said the same of Trump in 2020. The survey was conducted before the United States’ chaotic evacuation from Afghanistan, during which the Taliban took control of the country.
However, the survey, which came less than a year after the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, also found “widespread criticisms about the current state of civil rights in America,” Pew added. “While many say discrimination is also a serious problem in their own countries, they consistently say discrimination is worse in the U.S. than in their country.”

In the UK, if you say ‘America’, the average person still thinks in terms of Elvis, fish-tailed Cadillacs and Mom’s apple pie. They don’t see that it for what it is now – a bankrupt, post-industrial wasteland.
Perceptions of the UK overseas are equally mistaken. In the UK itself, people still think of the NHS as it was in the 1950’s. They don’t see that it is a bloated, corrupt empire.

more than half the world’s population live in places america is attacking, either physically or financially, yet they failed to ask any of the people in those countries – and then they say “globally”. realise that and you can see that it’s BS whatever the outcome.

Democracy only exists at the most local level in the Jewnited States. One can only have even a shred of faith in local elections only, because citizens can easily gauge the support for particular candidates or referendums. On the local level, citizens are also much more likely to know where those people, the politicians, live and shop and dine and where their children go to school and so on. So citizens can literally reach out and touch them, the local politicians, with a fist or a loop of rope or a torch to their house for instance. It gets significantly diluted going to the state level, and then the national / federal level becomes a complete disconnect with practically zero accountability to their constituencies. BUT, those national politicians still maintain a residence back at home and are occasionally there if a concerned citizen wanted to, umm, contact them.
That holds for the media as well. Local stories can be trusted to a degree because the local citizens can much more easily verify what is being reported. The bullshit and brainwashing deepen moving up to the state level. Then you can bet your inheritance anything being told to you on a national or international level is wildly distorted propaganda, outright lies, and/or brainwashing due to the stranglehold that organized Jewry has on the narratives. Major “news” networks spew nothing but shameless propaganda and trauma based conditioning. When it comes to national and international stories, you could safely bet your life savings and inheritance you are not being told anything close to the truth. Anyone who thinks they are getting any actual “news” from major networks such as CNN, Fox, BBC, NBC, CBS, etc is delusional at best.
And THAT is where the idea of democracy really shits the bed, that the press, the news media, can wildly fabricate, distort and lie and not be held the least bit accountable for it.

If the structures we have built up or belong to, depend upon deception, blackmail, brainwashing, cheating, fear mongering, intimidation, killing people, or oppression, or the suppression of the truth and our basic God-given rights, then they are most likely well beyond repair, and we have to abandon those structures and build a parallel society based on faith in God, together with truth, knowledge and freedom which is the only real basis for human trust, justice, and prosperity.

They don’t care that the newest clothing and gadgets were produced in sweatshops across the world. People don’t care that some items are produced by slave labor. People don’t care about the processed offerings at the grocery store. Or the pesticide-laden produce raised by corporations instead of farmers, or even the feedlots that are the scenes of the worst animal abuse in the country, completely free from prosecution. They don’t care that subsidized corporate agriculture puts real farmers out of business while it destroys our health and our environment.
They just care about their illusions of prosperity and that the products are cheap and make them feel good for a moment. And “illusion” is the perfect word for it because we live in a society where many people consume but very few people produce. A society like that could not stand on its own if isolated from the rest of the world or if the corporate food companies and manufacturing plants shut down.
The majority of the country has become completely dependent on things that are produced in factories.
Simple math tells us that this system can’t last forever.
We can’t all be consumers if there are no producers.
These days, self-reliance is actually a revolutionary act.
