  4.  » The War On Beauty: Does it matter?

Irish Savant – Oct 25, 2021

Presumably nobody would deny that there actually is a War On Beauty. It’s totally in your face. It’s a form of Satanic Inversion as everything hitherto perceived as good and beautiful gets inverted, turned on its head, replaced by the unsightly and repugnant. Look at this Calvin Klein ad. Gone are the svelte Nordic goddesses of yore, to be replaced by this gorgon. Incidentally, what the hell is this new phenomenon whereby ‘truth’ is preceded by a personal pronoun? Truth is truth. Making it ‘my’ or ‘her’ truth doesn’t change anything. Of course it’s a great way of circumventing inconvenient facts. Does finishing bottom of your class mean you’re neither clever nor hard-working? Or does your truth as a downtrodden black woman mean it’s attributable it to discrimination? You can see how handy that can be.

The War On Beauty knows no bounds. Literature, art, music and architecture have been transformed into hideous simulacrums of what they purport to represent. The fatuousness of modern ‘art’ suggests an agenda far beyond the world of the senses. For instance the Aalborg Museum Of Modern Art boasts of a masterpiece which consists of just the picture frame. There’s no picture. And they paid the artist €85,000 for his efforts. It’s little wonder that Brutalist architecture came into its own under Stalin enforcing as it does ugly unimaginative conformity.

Just look at this residence in Cork selling for nearly €3 million. Undoubtedly designed by a high-profile architect the net result looks like a conglomeration of farm outbuildings or a warehouse.

Compare this to the exquisite ornate buildings of earlier times found throughout Europe, all designed and built without the benefit of modern technology. And don’t start me on modern manifestations of music, sculpture and literature. They pollute and debase the symmetry, harmony and balance that infuse true beauty.

What’s behind this war? It’s logical to see it as a component, a vital component, of the overall war on European culture and traditions, of the war on Whiteness. For instance it strongly supports the project to blend out Whiteness by enhancing the mating material status of non-Whites by undermining traditional criteria for beauty. At a more profound level it, by extension, strikes at the very soul of European-derived people by severing us from our myths, culture, history and traditions, everything that makes us what we are. Thus we become untethered, atomised, rootless…..disoriented, pliable, lacking in confidence and self-belief. Revolutionaries from Cromwell to Napoleon to Lenin understood this. Our enemies today understand it. But we do not. And this lack of understanding is quite literally destroying us. Is this why the Vatican II-subverted Catholic Church has destroyed its traditional ornate interiors which induced a powerful aesthetic experience with replacements possessing the spirituality of an airport terminal? (“The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth.” – George Orwell.)

It could be destroying us at an even more profound level because some of our greatest philosophers equate beauty with goodness. The late Roger Scruton cites Plato in support of this thesis. “Beauty is an ultimate value—something that we pursue for its own sake.” Scruton defines beauty as “a real and universal value, one anchored in our rational nature which has an indispensable part to play in shaping the human world. Beauty is one member of a trio of ultimate values which justify our rational inclinations.” [my emphasis]. Descartes claimed that we can infer truth via beauty while Dostoevsky believed that “Beauty will save the world.”

All of which leads us to the ghastly conclusion that maybe our civilisation will be saved not by force or logic but, God help us all, by our artists. I’ll leave the final word on this to Gregory Wolffe “Whereas I once believed that the decadence of the West could only be turned around through politics and intellectual dialectics, I am now convinced that authentic renewal can only emerge out of the imaginative visions of the artist and the mystic.”

So over to you David Hirst, Banksty and Jay-Z.
