We have chosen a career in libraries to make a positive difference in our communities. We work passionately everyday to provide access to information, employment skills, language learning, literacy, connectedness, and an enjoyment of life.
We worked throughout the pandemic without a vaccine available, and continued to fulfill our role as community stewards by setting up food kitchens; calling isolated seniors to check in on them; providing stressed out parents with resources to help their children cope; and ensuring library users would have still have access to materials.

Hundreds, if not thousands of us are now facing coercive policies that disregard foundational principles of library work, privacy and democracy.
Communism once boasted of its intended “march through the institutions”. What has actually happened is that those parroting establishment cultural marxist mantras have over several generations obtained senior positions in public sector and academic life. They have ejaculated the right words in order to obtain money/career progression.
Unless they are overt psychopaths, this requires a certain amount of doublethink on their parts. They will, I believe, experience the most intense internal pressure as reality and their fairy tale worldview become further and further apart. This is pyschosis on a societal level, and from my reading, this is exactly what happened in the Soviet Union. My own family are caught up on this hypnotic world of cognitative dissonance that is yet to reap its final retribution upon them.
I observed this whole business in my time as a teacher within the school system. Those presenting the veneer rather than substance were the ones climbing up the greasy pole. But this is probably no different from any age of humanity is it ?
It is convenient for control-freaks that “social justice” can morph into a need to control the whole society, so it can serve as a cloak.

Another case of Ontario officials either showing their ignorance of the international laws on discrimination or displaying their level of contempt for those laws .
I worked in HR for 20 years and it left me with little regard for this avenue of work. Some of the biggest wankers I came across were HR managers and Directors. There were exceptions, but to anyone in the workplace who has to deal with HR I would say “Beware!” Most of these people are not your allies!
Ian: My sentiment exactly. HR could be the lifeblood of the organization – attracting and nurturing the right talent, creating learning mechanisms, building knowledge architectures… That’s the theory, anyway. The reality is much too often as you describe it – a bunch of court jesters kissing the big boss’s backside while flagrantly violating everyone’s confidentiality and privacy in a quest for ever more manipulation and power. I left cubicledom in 2009, and paid dearly for my choice, but have never looked back on all that vileness and mediocrity.
Subtract a century and move us to the USSR/Russia, eh hoser?
