Controlling the vote means they don’t have to gain the votes needed, they just have to rig enough votes to give the impression he’s the people’s choice. Lorry driver shortages were foreseen years ago because here’s what they did. In the 1990s I was still in my 30s and young enough for a new career driving lorries and willing to get a loan for a HGV 1 course. But the laws regarding funding to pay for the courses and license requirements had been changed in the years since I first made enquiries when I was still in my 20s but then unwilling to take on a big debt.
It was clear it was all about private finance and course providers bilking money from those taking the courses. The government later stopped providing its own interest-free loans through the Jobcentre and now arrange interest-backed loans provided by private money. Not just that, but until a few years before you had the opportunity to go straight for your Heavy Goods Vehicle Class 1 articulated licence with each course costing about £1,000. Also, if you got your HGV 1 licence this qualified as having a car licence also, which was useful for younger men because the costs of gaining a car licence went straight into their HGV 1 courses and test[s] instead. You could skip over a HGV 2 “rigid” licence, you didn’t need it.
But those laws have been changed, doubtless by industry lobbyists, because it wasn’t necessary to do before. Health and Safety my arse. Now a learner articulated lorry driver (now C1+E) must not only first gain a new rigid licence (now C1) at a cost of a £1,000 or more – for a licence he doesn’t want nor need if he wants to drive artic’s – he now has to first pass a car driving test before he can go in for his rigid course. Oldies who have a car licence can go straight to “rigid” but fewer young men have one.
So now instead of passing one intensive test to gain an articulated lorry licence and take an artic on the road as before, one must now pass three tests – car, rigid and artic. F***ing thieves all of ’em in training and loan companies and the politicians they bent to do it. When looking at the money-grubbing behind these law changes I think the test parameters will have been changed too to bilk more money in courses and test fees by failing more people than necessary. If so fewer will gain their licences because of costs or losing heart. No wonder there’s no lorry drivers now coming through to replace the older ones.

I declined my rigid and artic courses because I reckon I might have been bilked, with no guarantee even if able I’d pass the tests before running out of money or credit to continue my courses. But my debts would continue. Guaranteed! So I said, “F*** ’em! Let them run out of lorry drivers.” Years later, now they are.

Starmer faces another storm brewing. Car licences are now so expensive to obtain them that within a few years there will be too few younger people with full car licences available to take on the untold millions of ordinary driver’s licence delivery jobs undertaken daily. Older drivers like posties retire too, as do people who drive the smaller goods wagons like bread vans. These lighter goods vehicles can be driven on a car licence if they have a single-rear axle, and as fewer ordinary lads and lasses can afford the car driver courses, those ordinary and light vehicles and wagons are going to end up short of drivers in far less than twenty years, and that will be the death-knell for many parts of the wider economy.
Better-off young people will still gain their licences thanks to mum and dad, but they’re not the people planning on driving delivery vans for a living. They’re planning on jobs where they get the company car, but if there are no drivers moving the goods around then soon there will be no darned company.
The idiot Starmer’s promise to end business rates won’t put test-proficient drivers on the roads. It’s going to take someone more radical than that pencil rubber to sort out the storm that’s coming. I would add that designed fuel crisis rhymes Well with the ULEZ which bites in around 3 weeks time when huge numbers of vehicles, many of them trade vans and lorries will be charged £12.50 per day and if you venture into the CC zone, that’s £11.50 per day, so £24 squid in total.
I am sure we’ll see the fake news saying that x number of EV vehicles were leased since the fuel crisis.

You don’t want drivers with no experience whatsoever going straight to semi-trailers/articulated vehicles. It’s a frightening thought. I don’t have a problem (aside certain reservations) with experienced car drivers going straight to C1+E but there is no way anyone can go from no experience on the roads to handling a 44 Tonne vehicle.

I passed my car test in my late teens (2nd attempt after deservedly failing the 1st) and got my rigid truck licence in the military. I had bags of experience driving trucks but still managed to fail my first semi-trailer test in post-military life. I can’t imagine someone/anyone going straight to a C1+E Licence and being safe on the road. I made enough errors myself.

Lorry driver shortages were foreseen years ago because here’s what they did. In the 1990s I was still in my 30s and young enough for a new career driving lorries and willing to get a loan for a HGV 1 course. But the laws regarding funding to pay for the courses and license requirements had been changed in the years since I first made enquiries when I was still in my 20s but then unwilling to take on a big debt.
It was clear it was all about private finance and course providers bilking money from those taking the courses. The government later stopped providing its own interest-free loans through the Jobcentre and now arrange interest-backed loans provided by private money. Not just that, but until a few years before you had the opportunity to go straight for your Heavy Goods Vehicle Class 1 articulated licence with each course costing about £1,000. Also, if you got your HGV 1 licence this qualified as having a car licence also, which was useful for younger men because the costs of gaining a car licence went straight into their HGV 1 courses and test[s] instead. You could skip over a HGV 2 “rigid” licence, you didn’t need it.
But those laws have been changed, doubtless by industry lobbyists, because it wasn’t necessary to do before. Health and Safety my arse. Now a learner articulated lorry driver (now C1+E) must not only first gain a new rigid licence (now C1) at a cost of a £1,000 or more – for a licence he doesn’t want nor need if he wants to drive artic’s – he now has to first pass a car driving test before he can go in for his rigid course. Oldies who have a car licence can go straight to “rigid” but fewer young men have one.
So now instead of passing one intensive test to gain an articulated lorry licence and take an artic on the road as before, one must now pass three tests – car, rigid and artic. F***ing thieves all of ’em in training and loan companies and the politicians they bent to do it. When looking at the money-grubbing behind these law changes I think the test parameters will have been changed too to bilk more money in courses and test fees by failing more people than necessary. If so fewer will gain their licences because of costs or losing heart. No wonder there’s no lorry drivers now coming through to replace the older ones.
I declined my rigid and artic courses because I reckon I might have been bilked, with no guarantee even if able I’d pass the tests before running out of money or credit to continue my courses. But my debts would continue. Guaranteed! So I said, “F*** ’em! Let them run out of lorry drivers.” Years later, now they are.
Starmer faces another storm brewing. Car licences are now so expensive to obtain them that within a few years there will be too few younger people with full car licences available to take on the untold millions of ordinary driver’s licence delivery jobs undertaken daily. Older drivers like posties retire too, as do people who drive the smaller goods wagons like bread vans. These lighter goods vehicles can be driven on a car licence if they have a single-rear axle, and as fewer ordinary lads and lasses can afford the car driver courses, those ordinary and light vehicles and wagons are going to end up short of drivers in far less than twenty years, and that will be the death-knell for many parts of the wider economy.
Better-off young people will still gain their licences thanks to mum and dad, but they’re not the people planning on driving delivery vans for a living. They’re planning on jobs where they get the company car, but if there are no drivers moving the goods around then soon there will be no darned company.
The idiot Starmer’s promise to end business rates won’t put test-proficient drivers on the roads. It’s going to take someone more radical than that pencil rubber to sort out the storm that’s coming. He doesn’t even have the balls to say only women have a cervix ffs. That ain’t “rad” that’s just stupid.
We should stop talking about politics. Because these are just the actors and clowns… It is not only useless, a waist of time, but also distracting us from reality.. Wich is the whole intension of politics. It is time to focus on real power carriers.. These are clearly exposed, wich is a real problem for them, with fast modern communications..
I would add that designed fuel crisis rhymes Well with the ULEZ which bites in around 3 weeks time when huge numbers of vehicles, many of them trade vans and lorries will be charged £12.50 per day and if you venture into the CC zone, that’s £11.50 per day, so £24 squid in total.
I am sure we’ll see the fake news saying that x number of EV vehicles were leased since the fuel crisis.

You don’t want drivers with no experience whatsoever going straight to semi-trailers/articulated vehicles. It’s a frightening thought. I don’t have a problem (aside certain reservations) with experienced car drivers going straight to C1+E but there is no way anyone can go from no experience on the roads to handling a 44 Tonne vehicle.

I passed my car test in my late teens (2nd attempt after deservedly failing the 1st) and got my rigid truck licence in the military. I had bags of experience driving trucks but still managed to fail my first semi-trailer test in post-military life. I can’t imagine someone/anyone going straight to a C1+E Licence and being safe on the road. I made enough errors myself.
