Everything has a weakness as the armour-clad knights of old discovered when archers could pierce their armour with needle bodkin arrows. Same with the plastic-armour tactical outfits of our modern police. We haven’t had serious unrest yet but when we do the cops will find plastic burns well when Molotov cocktails splash them, and nor are they Iron Man suits in which they can bench press a stolen nine-ton bus and lift it off their chests … assuming they survived the ramming.
That armour looks like serious kit now because it goes up against people only and not up against what people can improvise. It takes societal breakdown for that, but because the police keep arresting people acting for political change that societal breakdown is coming, and that armour will be put to the test and found wanting. Once they discover its limitations and dangers many will prefer to do without it.

‘Defund the police’ is a classic PROBLEM-REACTION-SOLUTION.
Stage 1. They allow crime to run completely out of control (or so it seems to the public. If it actually threatens the elite in any way, there will be a crackdown quick enough).
Stage 2. The public is terrified by the mobs and demands that the authorities ‘do something’.
Stage 3. The government institutes ‘temporary’ martial law which then quickly morphs into the full police state.

Why is there a shortage of HGV drivers? Has the alleged virus attacked them out of all proportion? Perhaps we will need more immigrants to fill the vacancies? I don’t want to see some fanatic driving a vehicle laden with forty tons.
There is not a shortage of HGV drivers. Even if there were it takes about a week to train one. If there was a real shortage they would be dropping the law that doesn’t allow a driver to take the test for an articulated vehicle unless they already hold a rigid vehicle license.
It’s the same problem that it always is. Employers won’t pay a decent wage to entice people to become drivers.

During a war, when the people are conscripted and get bullied, and threatened with death if they disobey, you already have this situation where the government is using the army against the people. If the official enemy secretly has the same rulers as you, it is a case of two governments attacking its own people. Putting it differently, government is only a charade.
