Introduction – Feb 5, 2021

We would suggest that we are likely to see a decline in relations between Moscow and Washington.

The Kremlin knows Biden’s election “win” was achieved through vote fraud. That’s why it seemed initially hesitant to congratulate Biden. No doubt because Russia’s intelligence service had voiced doubt the authenticity of his election victory.

Only when it became obvious that a new regime had been successfully installed in Washington did Putin relent and phone through his congratulations. He was simply being realistic.

Now however, with a senile old man effectively fronting a new Washington administration, Moscow will have to learn to adapt to playing with an entirely new set of rules.

It may be no coincidence that Russian dissident Navalny has risen to prominence as the Biden administration takes office. As Russia’s Foreign Minister has pointed out, Western governments are using Navalny as a means to distract from their own domestic problems.

Indeed, we suspect that covert western agencies may even be covertly supporting Russian dissidents, just as they did in Iran and Syria. Ed.

President Biden has said he told Vladimir Putin the days of the US “rolling over” for Russia are over.

It comes as he seeks to move on from Donald Trump’s foreign policy, seen as too close to Russia by many.

In a speech at the State Department, Mr Biden said: “America is back. Diplomacy is back.”

The president said that during his call with Mr Putin last month he brought up subjects such as election interference, alleged Russian bounties offered to Taliban fighters to kill US troops, and the poisoning of Alexei Navalny.

“I made it clear to President Putin in a manner very different from my predecessor, that the days the United States rolling over in the face of Russia’s aggressive actions, interfering with our elections, cyber attacks, poisoning citizens are over,” Mr Biden said.
