The United States will establish a permanent military presence in Poland as it deploys around 1,000 additional U.S. troops there, Poland’s Defence Ministry said on Friday.
Poland is setting growing store by its bilateral defence relationship with its NATO partner, fearful of an increasingly assertive posture from Russia to the east since Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
On June 12 last year, U.S. President Donald Trump agreed, with Polish President Andrzej Duda beside him at the White House, to send 1,000 more troops to his NATO ally.
But negotiations on the details of where the troops would be stationed and how much Poland would pay dragged on for years.
“We did it. We have finished the negotiations on military cooperation,” Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said in a statement.
Poland currently hosts a rotating contingent of over 4,000 U.S. troops. A permanent presence, which the statement says will now number at least 5,500 troops, is likely to cost Poland more.
The deal also involves the development of expertise for Polish forces in the areas of reconnaissance and command, with the possibility of more U.S. forces coming to Poland in case of an increased threat, the statement said.
The financial details of the new deal were not revealed in the ministry’s statement.
The U.S. military on Wednesday expanded on plans to withdraw about 12,000 troops from Germany and indicated that some of them could be moved to Poland or the Baltic states.
It was unclear from Friday’s statement where the additional 1,000 troops would come from, and whether some would be reassigned from Germany. Poland’s Defence Ministry was not immediately available to comment and the U.S. embassy declined to do so.
U.S. officials have insisted that the agreement with Poland and the decision to pull some U.S. troops out of Germany are separate matters.
The people of Poland must know the United States is not their friend. So must the politicians, who will either have been bribed or maybe shown Epstein’s photos now in US possession. I doubt it was threats. The East Europeans are not pussies.
You could pose the question……is this shift of troops to Poland anything to do with the widespread dislike of Jews in Poland.
The Polish are not hamstrung by constant holocaust propaganda so are free to voice their opinions about long suffering persecuted Jews (tell that one to the relatives of the Palestinians who were massacred by Jews at Deir Yassin).

This is a complicated History and there was a Holocaust of the Polish Nation (Christians and Jews). I find it odd that you conflate the suffering of the Palestinian’s to the suffering of the Polish Jews and Christian Poles.(Suffering is Suffering). These( Palestinian) massacres were carried out Post WW2 by the Zionist Israeli occupiers of Palestine. The Post WW2 Population of Polish Christians & Jews has long passed and only a handful of 90/100-year-old people survive and they are blameless. Best that you direct your Faux anger at the current Israeli government. I am sure the Poles, Christian & Jew can teach you something about suffering and resistance and have much more in common with the Palestinians than you can possibly imagine. I will give you a little clue as to why the Polish government is inviting the US troops into Poland and they are paying them to come in. First to prevent the Germans and Russians from entering Poland uninvited as they did in 1939 and 2.to maintain a Balance of Power in Europe.3. to clean out the remnants of Soviet Imperialism from Poland. The last census in the Russian Empire was carried out in 1897. In 1915 they started a new one but this one was abandoned for obvious reasons (WW1).
At the beginning of 1915 Warsaw was the third largest city in the Russian Empire after Moscow and Petersburg. In Warsaw the 1915 census was executed.
The number of Jews in the city was 40%. Similar percentage of Jews (even over 50%) in many other cities&towns in the Pale of Settlement. In 1915 Warsaw was the second largest Jewish city in the world after New York.

Iaquan, I’m not sure what your views are on Strategic World Politics (or if you have any) but you seem to be standing on your head and your focus lacks a historical depth of field. “Sacrificial Lambs”? I don’t think so. You have it back to front/inverted and have no idea of what is taking place. The US can handle Russia (Militarily, Politically, and economically) they do not need Poland for that. Poland needs the US army to be stationed in Poland so that Poland can further its strategic ambitions for Central and Eastern Europe. There is considerable debate in Poland as to the stationing US troops. The Polish Government is playing the Long Game (50/100 year) strategy they are prepared to take the risks and yes there may be local conflicts or even a military coup but that will not alter the direction of the strategy but may even strengthen it. Do the Americans care about the Polish People? I believe they do as they need to park their troops in Poland for their own strategic reasons (Americans are pragmatic). There are over 10 million Americans of Polish origin living in the USA and they do count. Business is Business and the Poles have made the deal and they are prepared for the risks that may arise.
