Moon of Alabama – April 4, 2020
On the same day the British Labour party announced the election of a center-rightt new party leader to replace the much denigrated socialist Jeremy Corbyn, the Financial Times(!) calls for the socialist policies Corbyn had planned to implement.
From today’s FT editorial headlined:
Virus lays bare the frailty of the social contract (also here)
If there is a silver lining to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is that it has injected a sense of togetherness into polarised societies. But the virus, and the economic lockdowns needed to combat it, also shine a glaring light on existing inequalities — and even create new ones. Beyond defeating the disease, the great test all countries will soon face is whether current feelings of common purpose will shape society after the crisis. As western leaders learnt in the Great Depression, and after the second world war, to demand collective sacrifice you must offer a social contract that benefits everyone.
…
Radical reforms – reversing the prevailing policy direction of the last four decades – will need to put on the table. Governments will have to accept a more active role in the economy. They must see public services as investments rather than liabilities, and look for ways to make labour markets less insecure. Redistribution will again be on the agenda; the privileges of the elderly and wealthy in question. Policies until recently considered eccentric, such as basic income and wealth taxes, will have to be in the mix.

Amen to that.
There was a time when I regularly bought the FT weekend edition to read the economic discussions in it. The weekend edition also has a section that is titled “How to spend it”. The newest luxury cars are tested and the greatest estates are discussed in it. I never had a craving to buy any of the things that section promoted. I thought that the snobbish section title was probably meant to be ironic.
Now the FT has finally found the right content for that section.
This editorial is a sea change. We will quite soon experience more of it.

On so many fronts, the sheeple are primed for social unrest. Only in Britain where the sheeple are medicated, will there be order. How do I know the Brits are medicated… falling levels of crime (excluding drug/gang crime), failing domestic violence, failing divorce rates and the general ‘so effing what, why should I care.’ Before Covid, Americans were protesting about anything under the sun and look at France and the Yellow Vests who have huge nationwide support. The Queen is going to lecture the nation tonight and the surfs will be dribbling down their chins and tugging their forelocks. Others will stand up in their living rooms & lounges, standing to attention and saluting the great lizard.
Why not go the whole hog and have a complete lockdown? No utilities: gas, electricity, water; no food, money, clothing; no transport, travel; not allowed to leave the country, etc.; confined to house arrest! I wonder how long it would be before the sheep finally woke up and did something…took to the streets, perhaps in their millions? What would the authorities do? Have the army use tanks and machine guns to mow them down…a Tiananmen-Square-type Massacre? What would the Chinese make of that, I wonder? And what about the armed forces? Would they be prepared to kill their own people?
Now here’s a thought! What if everybody (the sheep) were to commit mass suicide? There was absolutely nobody left on Earth (except the elite/controllers!!!). Well, my guess is the last mentioned would have no-one to wipe their backsides for them; therefore they would never allow that to happen, anymore than a shepherd would stand by and watch his flock of dumb sheep jump off a cliff, lemming-like, and kill themselves! Anyone trying to commit suicide would have to be executed! Err, hang on a minute…!
Politicians in Britain have absolved themselves from any responsibility for working people. They are no longer necessary in a financial world where money really does grow on trees.
The amalgamation of Central Banks, Corporations and Governments has succeeded in making the elites so wealthy that they only need a sufficient number of serfs to serve their needs. The rest of us useless eaters are simply meant to die.
Interesting addendum re Starmer from tapnewswire~ He was in charge of the CPS in 2009 when they rejected police efforts to prosecute Jimmy Savile.
The party can have my left testicle, I can only hope it doesn’t take the right with it.
