What does it mean, “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop?”
There is a set of English proverbs that are worded similarly:
Idle hands are the devil’s workshop
Idle hands are the devil’s tools (“Collections” 1808)
Idle brains are the devil’s workhouses (T. Fuller 1732)
An idle brain is the devil’s workshop (H. G. Bohn, “Hand-Book of Proverbs,” 1855)
If the Devil finds a Man idle, he’ll set him at work (J. Kelly, “Scottish Proverbs,” 1721)
The devil finds work (or mischief) for idle hands to do http://lavistachurchofchrist.org/LVanswers/2006/06-09.htm
Proverbs 16:27-29 Living Bible (TLB)
27 Idle hands are the devil’s workshop; idle lips are his mouthpiece.[a]
28 An evil man sows strife; gossip separates the best of friends.
29 Wickedness loves company—and leads others into sin.
I binge listened to Jerry Marzinsky a while back. He seems very convincing. He gives his experience of a some sort of electrical surge when dealing with a prisoner with schizophrenia. I’m just interested: has this been corroborated elsewhere with similar phenomena ? Anyone know ?

I have had to live with schizophrenics on the street homeless for years. I dare any of these so called professional wankers to do the same. No electrical surge was ever detected unless you call violence an electrical surge, just minds so infantile they can’t escape their own matrix. They aren’t born like it that I know but at some stage of development something clicked out of whack badly and a gremlin got in. They are the first to soak in any outside programming and are perpetual juvenile delinquents. Although I would pay willingly to support them just not their bullshit.
When man’s hands become idle he becomes flippant, feeble and programmable, a good example is the entertainment industry. Always in cultures this was controlled because the narcissistic look at me natures would still have to work in the fields and pull their weight to eat. It was always secondary to life. Now look where we are and it has happened many times in history. Over stimulation was the conclusion to Dr Calhouns mice utopia I see schizophrenics as just part of the other side of the peak.
A few years of rock solid hard labour would do them the world of good and the world good in this day and age.
I work on a machine it is my mate during the day and I’m fond of it but it’s just a machine. I tell the boss how I can increase production after endless hours of observation while labouring. I have tested my theory it is safe and works, it increases production and profit.
But the boss has to go to a bean counter first, a safety officer second and an insurance company third. That’s 3 strikes buddy I’m out of there and that is an example of idle hands doing the devils work. Life is growth anything less is retardation and that includes man and the connection he has to the machine as an example.
Plus come on, who hasn’t spent time of the dole or pension and hasn’t gone a bit nuts at times. Those rich folk must be in constant battle with that as well and as we can see most of them have lost the plot. I’ll take being dirt poor and idle anyday over being rich, idle and just a wanker. I’d sooner make mud pies in the dirt than mud pies in the sky.
Satan is working hard right now
just look at what his servants do
