It is a constant struggle not to be an asshole. Not everyone succeeds.
This battle is waged both collectively and personally. I see it in myself.
Waiting in a line, impatient, my monkey shoots the frumpy woman delaying me and dumps her body in a pit. But my mensch reminds me that she has the same claim to happiness as I. Be patient.
My monkey cheers when he reads that a boatload of migrants have drowned. But my mensch reminds him that they are denied the necessities of life by Cabalist imperialism.
My monkey objectifies women and wants to have sex with every attractive woman he sees. My mensch reminds him that women are people and not sexual utilities. (Feminism has reduced women from beloved wives and mothers to volunteer prostitutes.)
My monkey is identified with his money. He grows or is diminished according to fluctuations in his trading account.
My mensch reminds him that money is just digits on a ledger, and given his lifestyle, he has more digits than he’ll ever need.

We all need to be free from the “Lusts of the Flesh.” Religion will not do it. Church will not do it. Being a “good Christian” will not do it.
Yes, even some Christians have concluded that it is just not possible to have a life free of sin or lustful thoughts and feelings. They read Romans chapter 6 that talks about our freedom from sin and their experience tells them that simply cannot be true. And they get support from many other Christians who gives credence to their experience and they recline silently within, thinking that is how all other Christians are struggling. They feel those few who say they are experiencing the life of the Spirit are probably faking it.
The Most High God knows that as we continue to live in this natural body, the temptations to sin will continue in all we do and say.
He has however made ample provisions for our ongoing forgiveness and cleansing when we do. But living a daily life of deliberate sin and indulging in the lust of the flesh is a different issue altogether.
I always remember going through an inner struggle with immoral thoughts in my early years in the faith. I said to myself that it is truly not possible to live with a pure mind free of impure thoughts. Boy, I was so wrong! Fast-forward 1 year after I said that, God had unveiled His Word to me and so washed my mind as I spend hours meditating on the Word that I had a hard time figuring out the last time I struggled with the same impure thoughts.
I had also watched porn on occasions, the unshakable images of which were plaguing my mind again and again and I did not know how to get rid of them. Thank God for His heavenly soap water! My mind was so cleansed by the power of the Word that those things quickly vanished. Why am I saying this?
To assure you that your ONGOING faith in Christ is NOT fake.
The Word of God works! You can be freed from the deeds of the flesh including the inner battles within with all it’s lustful desires and feelings. The worst thing anyone can do is to try to ignore the lust in the heart and continue as though it is not there. You can be sure it will continue to grow and look for an opportunity to express itself, even if that takes 50 or so years!!

Thank you, dear brave Henry, for so honestly articulating the spiritual battle we (who are aware) discern and dedicate ourselves to every day, who draw immeasurable satisfaction in growing from strength to strength, having our lamps lit, our eyes open and our wits about us!
When buffeted by a spiritual battle, I remember the story of the duck hunter who shouted out, “Bag the live ones! Bag the live ones! Let the dead ones lay.” It was those ducks that were wounded yet not dead that needed to be dealt with. The dead ones were already dead.

Something I would like to add, if Zacharia Sitchin’s Ancient Alien hypothesis is correct, that is if humans were genetically engineered from a more primitive homo erectus specie then it makes sense that there is this constant struggle between the natural monkey mind and the upgraded big brain our alien progenitors gave us.
The big brain is taught myth so that we are good tax paying obedient slaves of the ruling class, this UNnatural state of being obedient to something outside of self is what we struggle against because what we want to do is rage against the machine. This dicotomy is also presented as our struggle between good and evil, the inner devil and our loyalty to heaven or the angelic realm.
The lusts of the flesh are the corruptions of the big brain fantacizing about sex. Monkeys don’t suffer this, they just have sex. The Bonobos have sex all the time. Problems arise when the sex drive is subordinated to the myth, even church officials loose the battle and do little boys, unable to have sex with adult woman because of the perversion of the myth on their mind. It makes perfect sense that some Protestant religions allow the pastor to have a wife, but sometimes the pastor does meth and takes on a boyfriend named Mike Jones, lol.
I like to use the analogy of our problem with the rope a dope story. Try catching a deer (or a raccoon or a kangaroo) with a rope. You will absolutely get the shit bit and kicked out of you. Take a look at the rise of the pornstars, it is a huge growth industry and I’ve read it is half of the internet traffic. Mormon counties have the highest subscription rate to online porn. All that illicit sex is a choice of humans giving in to their desires. Is that bad or good? If you are a theist it is bad, the route to hell. To the monkey mind it is a great time. Should you be a satisfied red devil or a pent up lily white saint? Take your pick, try not to get it in conflict with your world view.

No doubt this viewpoint is to the delight of most of the readers to this fine website. But it is myth that God wants us to be a certain way. The Creator God never put limits on you, the Church did, the myth writers did to control you. As the world wakes up they are casting off the Bible (word) spell that controls the mind over the flesh.
