Introduction – Aug 26, 2019

Some years ago a gifted psychic friend suggested that in terms of military technology Iran was far more advanced than the Western media gave it credit for. In many respects, he said, Iranian military technology was on par with that in the West.
This is now becoming apparent with the introduction into service of Iran’s indigenously developed Bavar-373. A long-range air defence system, the Bavar 373 is more capable than Russia’s S-300 and could well rival its current air defence mainstay, the S-400.
The Bavar-373 isn’t the only weapon that will challenge any potential air strikes on Iran. In addition to the Bavar 373, the Iranian military’s Facebook reports that a new “short range air defence system” is currently being tested prior to delivery to the air defence forces.
According to the Facebook page:
The Oghab (Eagle) combined short to medium range surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system is designed to counter low flying targets especially cruise missiles.
According to Deputy Commander of Air Defense Forces, Gen. Alireza Elhami the system design has some similarities in design to the Tor missile system.

Russia delivered 29 Tor air defence systems in 2005. It seems likely that Iran has used it as a template to develop its own upgraded air defence system. Like the Tor, Iran’s Oghab will likely be used to defend strategic sites, nuclear facilities and other air defence systems like the Bavar 373 from cruise missile strikes.
Meanwhile, in an effort to blind U.S. spy satellites Iran has now also developed and deployed its own laser cannon:

According to the Iranian military’s Facebook page:
Nine years after blinding a CIA spy satellite, Iran confirms it has successfully developed and fielded laser cannons. According to the deputy Defense Minister and Head of Iran Electronic Industries (IEI) the laser cannons are deployed to protect some of the county’s sensitive and critical infrastructure.
The Western media routinely plays down the extent of Iran’s progress in developing its own military technology with the proviso:
“Western military analysts say Iran often exaggerates its weapons capabilities…”
However, that line is used to calm Western fears about the consequences of striking Iran, rather than reveal the true extent of its progress with military technology. In reality, Iran is far more capable and better prepared than Iraq ever was. There is no comparison. Iran saw the West’s reliance on its overwhelming air superiority in Iraq and has developed a wide range of weapons in response.
If the Trump does decide to bring regime change to Iran the West could pay a very heavy price.
