It’s old news but lest we forget. Just over a week ago President Trump claimed that the U.S. Navy had shot down an Iranian drone over the Straits of Hormuz.
Days later a U.S. Navy commander went so far as to claim that not one but two Iranian drones may have been shot down.
Iran emphatically denied both claims, and as we noted when this was first reported this, we tend to believe them. Because after more than week of making those claims the U.S. has yet to produce a shred of evidence to substantiate them.
At least when it shot down a U.S. Global Hawk drone in June Iran was able to display wreckage of the downed U.S. drone.
However, the U.S. has not displayed any video footage or wreckage, despite repeated Iranian demands that the U.S. provide proof to back up its claims.
In short Trump lied and according to Iranian commanders, his lie was so brazen that initially even they were taken in.
“Trump’s lie about downing our drone was such a big one that, at first, even we believed it,” the Middle East Eye quoted Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) aerospace division as saying.
“We had to check all the units to see if we lost any drones. His lie was so huge that we could not believe that he’d tell such a big lie to media,” Hajizadeh added.
He did though and like the Emperor’s new clothes no one in the corporate Western media has seriously questioned or queried that claim.
So before this item disappears entirely down the memory hole, we post this reminder. More than a week has past since Trump announced that the U.S.S. Boxer downed an Iranian drone over the Straits of Hormuz and the U.S. has yet to provide any evidence to substantiate this.
Beyond U.S. claims, we’ve yet to see any hard evidence. We’ve seen no video, no wreckage, nothing.
So the question is not whether the U.S.S. Boxer shot down an Iranian drone, which seems increasingly unlikely. But whether Trump was consciously lying about the event? Or more ominously, whether he had been misinformed by U.S. military intelligence? Ed.

US destroyed Iranian drone in Strait of Hormuz, says Trump

BBC Online – July 19, 2019

The US Navy destroyed an Iranian drone on Thursday after it refused to back down, President Donald Trump says.

He said the USS Boxer downed the drone over the Strait of Hormuz – a strategic sea passage in the Gulf – after it came within 1,000 yards (914m) of the ship.

In June, Iran shot down a US military drone in the area. Tensions between the two countries remain high.
