  4.  » Joe Biden calls for Vladimir Putin to face war crimes trial over Ukraine

Introduction – April 4, 2022

The Russians withdrew from the outskirts of Kyiv on Thursday, March 31. For the next two days we heard nothing about civilians being targeted until Sunday.

Then on Sunday morning stories about an alleged massacre of civilians by Russian forces were all over the Western MSM.

So what happened in the days immediately after the Russian withdrawal? For two full days we heard nothing about alleged Russian “war crimes”. Did the Ukrainians use that interval to stage the scene of a massacre with bodies and burned out post-Soviet military vehicles?

President Biden, or at least those controlling him, must know that a massacre of Ukrainian civilians benefits no one, least of all Russia. About the only people who will gain from this are warmongers in the Pentagon and President Zelensky, who is now using it to drum up international support for his regime.

That the Biden administration is playing along with this charade means that confrontation with Russia has now been decided on. The last two occasions that Washington made such serious accusations both ended in military confrontation; with Saddam Hussein and the Iraq invasion and with proxies against President Assad in Syria.

These allegations of Russian “war crimes” in the Ukraine are leading us down a similar route. To make matters worse absolutely no one in the Western MSM is taking a hard critical look at the evidence for the alleged Russian “war crimes”.

The only people who are calling the evidence into question are independent commentators like Moon of Alabama and Gonzalo Lira, while former Indian ambassador M.K. Bhadrakumar has called the evidence an outright fake.

For its part the MSM has been unanimous in its condemnation of Russia and Putin, just as it once was with Saddam Hussein and President Assad.

The days when the media held the government to account are long gone. Nowadays, it actively supports the Powers That Be with stories that help justify whatever policy they have decided on. So for years prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq we were fed an endless stream of speculative reports about Saddam’s Weapons of Mass Destruction.

As it turned out, there never was an Iraqi WMD program but those stories all served a purpose. They prepared the Western public psychologically for the Iraq invasion. In fact we would suggest that was their real objective.

Likewise, we suspect that these reports of “Russian war crimes” have a similar aim: to prepare the Western public for a military confrontation with Russia.

Trouble is, the West won’t only be facing Russia.

China and Iran will probably throw in their lot with Moscow too. So be under no illusion, our Western leaders and a compliant media are knowingly leading us all toward WWIII. Ed.

Joe Biden calls for Vladimir Putin to face war crimes trial over Ukraine

Jon Henley and David Smith – The Guardian April 4, 2022

Joe Biden has called for Vladimir Putin to be tried for war crimes as western leaders prepared a fresh round of economic sanctions against Moscow amid mounting global outrage over claims of civilian killings by Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

The US president was responding to harrowing images broadcast around the world after the discovery over the weekend of a mass grave and bodies in civilian clothes, some with their hands bound, in the town of Bucha, near Kyiv.

“You may remember I got criticised for calling Putin a war criminal,” Biden told reporters at the Fort McNair army post in Washington. “Well, the truth of the matter – we saw it happen in Bucha – he is a war criminal.”

“But we have to gather the information. We have to continue to provide Ukraine with the weapons they need to continue to fight, and we have to get all the detail [to] have a war crimes trial. This guy is brutal and what’s happening in Bucha is outrageous.”

On a visit to Bucha, about 30km north-west of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, went further, saying the town had been the scene of war crimes that would be “recognised by the world as genocide”.
