{"id":93250,"date":"2014-03-20T08:45:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T08:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=93250"},"modified":"2014-03-24T09:03:59","modified_gmt":"2014-03-24T09:03:59","slug":"sexual-assaults-in-the-military-are-at-an-all-time-high-and-most-of-them-are-male-on-male","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=93250","title":{"rendered":"Sexual Assaults In The Military Are At An All-Time High And Most Of Them Are Male On Male"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal<\/w:View> <w:Zoom>0<\/w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser \/> <\/w:WordDocument> <\/xml><![endif]--><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">Michael Synder &#8212; The End American Dream March 17, 2014<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">There is a raging epidemic of sexual assault in the U.S. military.\u00a0 A report released by the U.S. Department of Defense says that an astounding 12,000 women serving in the U.S. military were sexually assaulted in 2012.\u00a0 This is a national disgrace, and any U.S. service member that rapes a woman deserves the death penalty in my opinion.\u00a0 It has gotten so bad that a female service member serving in Afghanistan is more likely to be raped by a male service member than she is to be killed by the Taliban.\u00a0 But that is only half the story.\u00a0 Sexual assault against males is at an epidemic level in the U.S. military as well.\u00a0 In fact, according to the same report that I just mentioned, there were <strong>14,000 sexual assaults<\/strong> against men serving in the U.S. military during 2012.\u00a0 That means that most of the sexual assaults in the military are actually male on male.\u00a0 The following is an excerpt from an article in\u00a0<a title=\"the New York Times\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/11\/25\/opinion\/the-untold-story-of-military-sexual-assault.html\" target=\"_blank\">the <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>New York Times<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">According to the Department of Defense\u2019s <a title=\"Military Sexual Assault Report for 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sapr.mil\/index.php\/annual-reports\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Military Sexual Assault Report f<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>or 2012<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, an<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><a title=\"estimated 26,000 members of the United States military\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/security\/2013\/05\/07\/1972241\/pentagon-sexual-assault-report\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>estimated 26,000 members of the United States<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> military<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, both men and women, were sexually assaulted in that year. The Pentagon survey almost certainly underreports the scale of the issue. Of those sexual assaults, <strong><a title=\"53 percent (approximately 14,000 in 2012)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/24\/us\/in-debate-over-military-sexual-assault-men-are-overlooked-victims.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">53 percent (approximately 14,000 in 2012<\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">)<\/span><\/a> were attacks on men<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The study also found that male service members are far less likely to report when they are attacked, and when a report is made, military authorities are far less likely to\u00a0<a title=\"go after the perpetrator\" href=\"http:\/\/data.baltimoresun.com\/military-sexual-assaults\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>go after the <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>perpetrator<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">These men \u2014 an estimated 13,900 last year alone \u2014 are far less likely than women to report an attack. Only 13 percent of reports last year were filed by men, military data show.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">But the disparities do not end there. The Sun found that when men do report a sexual assault, military authorities are less likely to identify a suspect, to refer charges to court-martial or to discharge the perpetrator than in cases in which the victim is a woman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Fortunately, after years of denial this issue is starting to come to the forefront.\u00a0 Some prominent retired officers are even speaking out about this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">For example, Major General Dennis J. Laich says that the military brass <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>\u201c<\/strong><\/span><a title=\"should be asking for forgiveness\" href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/security\/2013\/11\/06\/2898711\/report-sexual-assault-military\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>should be asking for <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>forgiveness<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d from the thousands of victims that never got justice\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The chain of command \u201cshould be asking for forgiveness\u201d from the thousands we have failed to serve and protect over the past 25 years, former Maj. Gen. Dennis J. Laich (ret.) told reporters during a press call. \u201cWhen an American female service member serving in Afghanistan has a higher probability of being raped by a fellow soldier than being killed by the Taliban, I would submit that the chain of command has a problem,\u201d he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">When we can\u2019t even protect members of our own military, we have got a major problem on our hands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">During 2012, <a title=\"more than 85,000 military veterans\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2013\/05\/20\/more-than-85000-veterans-treated-last-year-over-alleged-military-sex-abuse\/?test=latestnews\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>more than 85,000 military<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>veterans<\/strong><\/span><\/a> were formally treated for sexual abuse that they suffered while serving in the U.S. military.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And even though they are less likely to come forward for treatment, 40 percent of those that were treated were men.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Things have gotten so bad at this point that even military recruiters have become known for sexually assaulting those that they are recruiting.\u00a0 According to <a title=\"the Washington Post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/pentagon-grapples-with-sex-crimes-by-military-recruiters\/2013\/05\/12\/d082ec1c-b97e-11e2-bd07-b6e0e6152528_story.html?hpid=z2\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>the <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Washington Post<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the Pentagon is pledging to do something about this growing problem\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe secretary has made it clear that we will spare no effort to rid our military of sexual abuse,\u201d said George Little, the Pentagon press secretary. \u201cThe fact that there have been problems of sexual abuse during the recruiting process is simply intolerable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">When you get sexually assaulted, it can absolutely shatter your life \u2013 especially if you never get any justice.\u00a0 This is one of the reasons why the suicide rate in the U.S. military is so high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Most people don\u2019t realize this, but the number of active members of the U.S. military that kill themselves each year<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><a title=\"now exceeds\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/news\/national\/military-suicides-rising-combat-eases-article-1.1091776?localLinksEnabled=false\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>now<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>exceeds<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span>the number that are dying on the battlefield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">And according to <a title=\"one recent study\" href=\"http:\/\/washington.cbslocal.com\/2013\/02\/01\/study-22-military-veterans-commit-suicide-every-day\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>one absolutely shocking<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"> <\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>study<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, 22 military veterans kill themselves in the United States <strong>every single day<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Clearly something is very wrong with the U.S. military.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Most of the time, the stories of these victims of sexual assault in the military never get told.\u00a0 But fortunately a few of them are starting to get out there.\u00a0 For example, consider what happened to <a title=\"former Marine Lance Corporal Jeremiah Arbogast\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2014\/02\/27\/retired-marine-reveals-secret-suffering-of-male-military-rape-victims.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>former Marine Lance Corporal Jeremiah <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Arbogast<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">His eyes low, focused on the prepared statement in front of him, Arbogast recounted the details of his own sexual assault and its equally horrifying aftermath. He was drugged to the point of incapacitation and sexually assaulted by a fellow marine, a former staff sergeant, while on active duty. \u201cI was humiliated at the thought of my helplessness,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-right: 36pt; margin-left: 36pt;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Two months after the attack, incessant nightmares, anxiety, depression and confusion finally overpowered his fear and embarrassment and Arbogast confronted a base social worker who reported the attack to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which investigates crimes involving Naval or Marine Corps personnel. This would only further his humiliation, Arbogast came to find out. He said he was forced to make recorded phone calls to his rapist and even confront him at his house while wearing a wire in order to get a confession. He accomplished his mission, but his nightmare was far from over. Arbogast\u2019s attacker was arrested and hit with several charges including sexual assault and sodomy, but after only a week in court, evidence shed light on his 23 years of service and he walked away with a bad conduct discharge and no jail time. Arbogast said his rapist was ordered to NCIS headquarters for fingerprinting only to reveal that he\u2019d dulled the skin on his fingertips, and that he managed to refuse to register on the sex offender database by simply saying, \u201cNo, I don\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">You can read some more first person testimonies of sexual assault in the U.S. military <a title=\"right here\" href=\"http:\/\/mydutytospeak.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>right<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">This has got to stop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The U.S. military is supposed to be the most highly disciplined fighting force on the planet, and there is no excuse for this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Sadly, the reality is that what is going on in the military is simply a reflection of society as a whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">America has become <a title=\"a giant cesspool of filth and corruption\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/55-things-about-america-you-may-not-know\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>a giant cesspool of filth and<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> corruption<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and this is manifesting itself in thousands of different ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">If it was up to me, every member of the U.S. military that rapes someone would get the death penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">But it is not up to me.\u00a0 Instead, political correctness has taken over the U.S. military and we have an administration that treats military veterans<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong> <\/strong><\/span><a title=\"like absolute garbage\" href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/25-signs-that-military-veterans-are-being-treated-like-absolute-trash-under-the-obama-administration\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>like absolute <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>garbage<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">So let us hope that things in the military start to get better, but I wouldn\u2019t count on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/endoftheamericandream.com\/archives\/sexual-assaults-in-the-military-are-at-an-all-time-high-and-most-of-them-are-male-on-male  \">Source <\/a><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What does this say about the depths to which modern America has sunk?
