a city of the eastern edge of Ukraine in the Crimea region &#8211; <strong>things did not go entirely according to plan<\/strong>&#8230; This is the region that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-02-21\/russia-prepared-fight-war-over-ukraine-senior-government-official-admits\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Russia has stated it is willing to go to war over and is<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>deep in the pro-Russia territory<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8230; the nation is desparately divided (Kerch is  on the eastern corner of the Crimea peninsula at the bottom on the  map)&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Ukraine-west-v-east.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-91351\" title=\"Ukraine west v east\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Ukraine-west-v-east.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <w:WordDocument> <w:View>Normal<\/w:View> <w:Zoom>0<\/w:Zoom> <w:DoNotOptimizeForBrowser \/> <\/w:WordDocument> <\/xml><![endif]--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">As Russia warned before&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>&#8220;If Ukraine breaks apart, it will trigger a war,<\/strong>\u201d the official said. \u201cThey will lose Crimea first [because] we will go in and protect [it], just as we did in Georgia.\u201d In August 2008, Russian troops invaded Georgia after the Georgian military launched a surprise attack on the separatist region of South Ossetia in an effort to establish its dominance over the republic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>The brief conflict with Georgia pitted Russia indirectly against the US and Nato, which had earlier tried to put Georgia on a path to Nato membership<\/strong>. The Kremlin regards the Georgian conflict as the biggest stand-off between Russia and the west since the end of the Cold War and it has fed determination in Moscow to push back against what it believes to be western attempts to contain Russia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong>The warning of a similar scenario comes because Ukraine\u2019s civil conflict has fanned tension in Crimea.<\/strong> On the peninsula, located on the northern coast of the Black Sea where Russia\u2019s Black Sea Fleet is stationed, ethnic Russians make up almost 60 per cent of the population, with Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars accounting for the rest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Volodymyr Konstantinov, speaker of Crimea\u2019s parliament, said on Thursday that <strong>the region might try to secede from Ukraine if the country split. \u201cIt is possible, if the country breaks apart,\u201d <\/strong>he told the Russian news agency Interfax. \u201cAnd everything is moving towards that.\u201d Russian media also quoted him as saying Crimeans might turn to Russia for protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2014-02-22\/eastern-ukrainians-are-revolting\">Continues &#8230; <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Widening political divisions threaten to split the Ukraine along an East-West axis.
