Iran has made some headway on the diplomatic front recently; reaching an agreement with Argentina to set up a joint<\/span> investigation into the 1994 bombing of a Buenos Aires Jewish center<\/span><\/a> and concluding talks over its nuclear program with its negotiators\u00a0upbeat<\/span><\/a> <\/span>and further talks scheduled.<\/h5>\n
Even though a Western participant in the talks described them as \u201cmore constructive and more positive than previous meetings<\/span><\/a>\u201d, the Boston Herald<\/span><\/a> was still ready to dismiss\u00a0them as meaningless.<\/h5>\n
While predictably, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also condemned the agreement between Iran and the six world powers, saying that it gave Iran more time <\/span><\/a>to build a nuclear bomb.<\/h5>\n
However, the response elsewhere in the Western corporate media has been just as telling. It wasn\u2019t as forthright but a more subtle indirect reaction on an almost subliminal level. So subtle yet seemingly coordinated that one wonders if it wasn\u2019t orchestrated by Western intelligence.<\/h5>\n
With what amounts to disinformation appearing in both \u2018left\u2019 and \u2018right\u2019 wing publications, a very subtle but concerted campaign appears to be unfolding.<\/h5>\n
A couple of examples from recent days serve to illustrate this.<\/h5>\n
A review of Revolutionary Iran: A History of the Islamic Republic by Michael Axworthy appeared in Friday\u2019s ostensibly \u2018left leaning\u2019 \u2018liberal\u2019 Guardian<\/span><\/a>. Decribing the book as a \u201ccalm, literate portrait of the Islamic Republic\u201d the review goes on to claim:<\/h5>\n
\u201cAn attempt to consolidate Islamic government with a nuclear weapon has alarmed Israel and the world powers.\u201d<\/h5>\n
Of course, absolutely no evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapons program has emerged and James Buchan, the reviewer provides none. As is the case in subliminal suggestion, no hard intellectual scrutiny is required. Only a mere insinuation is necessary. In this case a throwaway line.<\/h5>\n
Likewise Friday\u2019s New York Times featured an op-ed by Fabian Bosoer and Frederico Finchelstein entitled \u2018Argentina\u2019s about face on terror<\/span><\/a>\u2019. Describing the 1994 bombing of the Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires as \u201cone of the deadliest anti-Semitic acts since the Holocaust\u201d, it asked why Argentina had agreed to a joint probe of the bombing with Iran?<\/h5>\n
The writers seem to take for granted that Iran was behind the bombing. Although absolutely no evidence is provided, like claims that the Nazis \u201cgassed 6 million Jews\u201d the accusation alone is enough.<\/h5>\n
Like allegations about Iran\u2019s nuclear weapons program, it seems suggestion alone is\u00a0sufficient to condemn those deemed guilty.<\/h5>\n
In effect, this is the equivalent to an illusionist\u2019s sleight of hand. Repeat an accusation enough times and like mud, some will eventually stick.<\/h5>\n
Just as repeated claims about \u201cSaddam\u2019s WMD\u201d ultimately led to the Iraq invasion \u2013 and the discovery that Saddam had no WMD \u2013 so repeated claims about Iran\u2019s \u201cnuclear weapons program\u201d could lead to the same conclusion.<\/h5>\n
Only now the accusations are little more than insinuations. The journalistic equivalent of a whispering campaign, the allegations are implied rather than voiced explicitly.<\/h5>\n
Like the publicity surrounding Saddam\u2019s fabled WMD however, this is part of a campaign to ramp up the rhetoric and condition the Western public mentally for an all out assault on Iran.<\/h5>\n
Only if this does ultimately succeed the resulting military conflict\u00a0will be much more destructive than the Iraq invasion. And there is every chance that it will escalate into a global conflict.<\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
