News Brief \u2013 May 13, 2012<\/h1>\n

In what is becoming an all too familiar tale, Afghan security forces have reportedly killed two British servicemen.<\/h5>\n
One was a soldier from the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards while the other was a member of the Royal Air Force. Both were part of a security detail at a base in Helmand Province.<\/h5>\n
Two Afghan policemen were reportedly involved in the shooting, one of whom was killed while the second escaped.<\/h5>\n
A NATO spokesman initially suggested the gunmen were insurgents wearing police uniforms, but a local police spokesman said they had both been members of the police force for over a year.<\/h5>\n
Meanwhile, a third NATO service member has been killed by a roadside bomb and a fourth has died of injuries not sustained in combat.<\/h5>\n
The so-called \u2018green-on-blue\u2019 attacks \u2013 where Afghan security personnel turn on their NATO counterparts \u2013 are becoming increasingly familiar in the war torn country.<\/h5>\n
In one of the worst incidents two senior U.S. military advisors were shot dead in the heavily fortified Interior Ministry compound in Kabul in February 2012. Both were killed with execution style shots to the back of the head.<\/h5>\n
The latest \u2018green-on-blue\u2019 attacks come a day after a gunman wearing an Afghan army uniform shot a NATO soldier dead in Kunar province.<\/h5>\n
Although still relatively rare, the increasing number of \u2018green-on-blue\u2019 attacks has NATO commanders concerned. If only because the mounting mistrust caused by the \u2018green-on-blue\u2019 attacks has impaired the operational efficiency of NATO forces and their local \u2018allies\u2019.<\/h5>\n
Moreover with the mounting number of \u2018green-on-blue\u2019 attacks, the NATO led International Security Assistance Force is increasingly being seen for what it really is: an army of occupation. Just as the former Red Army once was.\u00a0<\/h5>\n
