Government-controlled TCI has a near monopoly on Iran&#8217;s landline telephone services and much of Iran&#8217;s internet traffic is required to flow through its network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The ZTE-TCI deal, signed in December 2010, illustrates how despite tightening global sanctions, Iran still manages to obtain sophisticated technology, including systems that can be used to crack down on dissidents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/03\/22\/us-iran-telecoms-idUKBRE82L0B820120322\">Continues in full at source \u2026<strong> <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Comment \u2013 March 23, 2012<\/h2>\n<h5>Note that the above report doesn\u2019t say that equipment sold is being used to spy on Iranians, simply that it could be used to spy. Equally it could also be used for counter-espionage, or any number of other uses some of which could be perfectly innocuous.<\/h5>\n<h5>The implication is however, that those evil Iranians will use the technology to monitor Iranian dissidents. The article provides no evidence to substantiate this but then it doesn\u2019t have to. It merely implies as much.<\/h5>\n<h5>Meanwhile, new measures allowing the U.S. government more power in the surveillance of its own citizens and giving the National Counter-terrorism Center new privacy busting power are ignored. It\u2019s left to the alternative media to report on that\u2026<\/h5>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a title=\"Permanent Link to Obama Installs New Guidelines To Aid Spying On Innocent Americans\" href=\"http:\/\/www.prisonplanet.com\/obama-installs-new-guidelines-to-aid-spying-on-innocent-americans.html\">Obama Installs New Guidelines To Aid Spying On Innocent Americans<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Steve Watson \u2013 Prison Planet March 23, 2012<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">New guidelines put forth by the Obama administration will allow US spy agencies to keep records on innocent Americans without oversight for up to five years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">As the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/nation\/la-na-intelligence-database-20120323,0,4986496.story\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><strong> <span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">AP reports<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"> <\/span><sup>[2]<\/sup>, previously the National Counterterrorism Center, was legally obliged to immediately destroy information that it gathered about American citizens if it found no clear links to terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Following the 2009 Christmas day underpants bomber debacle, US representatives immediately called for the NCTC\u2019s authority to be expanded, saying that there was not enough communication between intelligence agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cFollowing the failed terrorist attack in December 2009, representatives of the counter-terrorism community concluded it is vital for NCTC to be provided with a variety of data sets from various agencies that contain terrorism information,\u201d National Intelligence Director James R. Clapper Jr. said in a statement late Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cThe ability to search against these data sets for up to five years on a continuing basis as these updated guidelines permit will enable NCTC to accomplish its mission more practically and effectively.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">The NCTC, made up of a combination of intelligence agencies and the Pentagon, was created in the wake of the 9\/11 attacks and has drawn criticism ever since for infringement on the Fourth Amendment and basic privacy rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">\u201cIt is a vast expansion of the government\u2019s surveillance authority,\u201d Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center said of the new guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">Noting that the new rules contravene the Federal Privacy Act, Rotenberg added \u201cThe fact that this data can be retained for five years on U.S. citizens for whom there\u2019s no evidence of criminal conduct is very disturbing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">An Obama administration official said that privacy will be safeguarded because there are strict measures in place to ensure that any intelligence gathered on American citizens \u201cis likely to contain significant terrorism information.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\">However, given that the Department of Homeland Security now <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prisonplanet.com\/dhs-terror-document-lists-yawning-goose-bumps-as-suspicious-behavior.html\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">considers banal bodily activities<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"color: #ccffff;\"> <sup>[3]<\/sup> such as yawning, staring and goose pumps as \u201csuspicious activity\u201d indicative of terrorism, those assurances are unlikely to appease concerned Americans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\">\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;\"><strong><em>Steve Watson <\/em><\/strong><em>is the London based writer and editor for Alex Jones\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/infowars.net\/\"><strong>Infowars.net<\/strong><\/a> <sup>[4]<\/sup>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/prisonplanet.com\/\"><strong>Prisonplanet.com<\/strong><\/a> <sup>[1]<\/sup>.
