The U.S. and Iran have been locked in an on-again, off-again war since Feb. 28, which has caused a global oil shock that has spiked gas prices and fanned the flames of inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you ask us, there is no reason why we should go back to diplomacy, but I am still trying diplomacy because I think we shouldn\u2019t miss any chance for peace,\u201d Araghchi said. \u201cWe are ready to negotiate as much as we are ready to face any challenge &#8230; We stand firm in the face of any aggression against us, even if it comes to a doomsday war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Araghchi on Friday had proposed reopening the strait and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/09\/25\/us-iran-trump-hormuz-.html\">resuming nuclear talks with the U.S.<\/a> within seven days if the Trump administration accepts its conditions.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/09\/26\/trump-rejects-irans-conditional-ceasefire-proposal-wsj-reports.html\">rejected Iran\u2019s proposal<\/a>, which could have opened the critical chokepoint, the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has severely disrupted the strait during the conflict, restricting oil and gas exports out of the Persian Gulf. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/middle-east\/trump-rejects-iran-ceasefire-expects-renewed-bombing-after-midterms-5982ee50?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported that in addition to rejecting the deal, Trump said he expected to resume bombing Tehran after the U.S. midterm elections in November.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate interview on NBC News, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Michael Waltz said that Iran\u2019s most recent offer was a \u201ccynical attempt to put something on the table that they knew was unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president will leave all options on the table to ensure the world is safe from Iran holding the world hostage with a nuclear weapon,\u201d Waltz said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/10000297\">Iran<\/a> is sticking to its position that it would only reopen the crucial Hormuz strait if its conditions are met, despite a rebuke from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\"> Trump<\/a>, while a senior Iranian military leader stressed his country\u2019s readiness to continue fighting.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday claimed that it seized an autonomous U.S. submarine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur conditions are clear;
