What has it accomplished?\u201d Warner wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He listed renewed US-Iran strikes, surging oil prices, overstretched American troops and munitions, and Tehran\u2019s continued possession of enriched uranium, missiles and drones. \u201cThe president\u2019s war has been a complete failure, yet there\u2019s still no end in sight.\u201d<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">We\u2019re 6 months into Trump\u2019s war of choice. Far from collapsing the Islamic Republic, the senator conceded that Iran\u2019s government is more determined than before the war began, an admission that the US-Israeli assault has failed to break Iran\u2019s will or its defensive capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Warner is not alone. Across Congress, lawmakers have used the six-month mark to describe the campaign as illegal, costly and strategically bankrupt.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Friday that after half a year, Trump\u2019s \u201cdisastrous war in Iran has accomplished nothing but the depletion of American stockpiles and the weakening of our military standing.\u201d He called it \u201can abject failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Schumer again demanded an end to the war after US military leaders warned Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth that prolonged large-scale operations against Iran are unsustainable and risk leaving the United States less able to confront threats elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Elizabeth Warren said the illegal war has driven up costs for ordinary Americans, killed US service members and burned through tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. \u201cEnd the war,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Warren has separately put the cost to the average American family at least at $1,200.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Chris Van Hollen marked six months since \u201cTrump &amp; Netanyahu launched their illegal war of choice in Iran,\u201d citing 18 US service members killed, hundreds wounded and thousands of civilians slain, while prices at home have soared. \u201cThis war needs to end, NOW,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">After Trump&#8217;s illegal Venezuela raid, I called it out for what it was: A reckless act of war to grab Venezuelan oil for US oil companies &amp; Trump&#8217;s billionaire buddies.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the same people who said I was wrong then\u00a0are celebrating Trump\u2019s oil &#8216;deal.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>It should outrage us all. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gib9C4kFtn\">pic.twitter.com\/gib9C4kFtn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Senator Chris Van Hollen (@ChrisVanHollen) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisVanHollen\/status\/2094500387306782931?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 31, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senator Adam Schiff likewise said the war has dragged on for six months \u201cwith no strategy and no end in sight,\u201d higher costs across the board, troops kept far from their families, and 18 US service members dead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must end this war and bring our troops home.\u201d Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has also blasted what he called Trump\u2019s \u201cbotched war with Iran\u201d for burning through munitions.<\/p>\n<p>In the House, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called the campaign \u201can epic failure,\u201d saying gas and food prices have exploded and America is less safe.<\/p>\n<p>Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described \u201cTrump\u2019s illegal war of choice in Iran\u201d as a \u201ccatastrophic mistake\u201d that has killed 19 US service members and wounded more than 750. After six months and billions of dollars, she said, \u201cOperation Epic Failure has yet to achieve a single strategic objective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even some Republicans have broken ranks. Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky noted that the United States has been at war with Iran for six months and that the 1973 War Powers Act required a withdrawal of forces within 90 days without congressional authorization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are past 180 days. End the War,\u201d Massie wrote, having previously called the conflict Trump\u2019s \u201cbiggest and most costly blunder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congress has already voted more than once to constrain the White House. In June, the Senate joined the House in passing a war powers resolution directing an end to hostilities unless Congress authorized them. Later attempts failed as Republicans blocked further action, even as Democrats argued the war was unconstitutional from the start.<\/p>\n<p>The US war of aggression has violated Iranian sovereignty, killed civilians and soldiers, wrecked regional security and failed to impose Washington\u2019s will. Six months on, US politicians now say out loud what the battlefield has already shown. Trump\u2019s war has not subdued Iran.
