Donald Trump threatened to \u201ctake over\u201d Iran if they try to close the Strait of Hormuz again <\/a>during a turbulent weekend for diplomacy as negotiators met in Switzerland to begin a period of high-stakes talks to end the war.<\/p>\n

The US president said he had warned Iranian officials directly that \u201cyou close [the strait] and you won\u2019t have a country\u201d, Fox News\u2019s Trey Yingst reported on Sunday, as Iran again restricted maritime traffic in response to Israel\u2019s clashes with Hezbollah.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou won’t even make it back to your f***** country,\u201d the president said he told the Iranians, adding: \u201cWe’ll take over the rest of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

High stakes talks aimed at finalising a deal to end the war <\/a>are expected to continue through the week, after a \u201cdifficult\u201d start that saw Iranian negotiators walk out over Trump\u2019s \u201cinsults\u201d.<\/p>\n

The first round of talks nonetheless concluded early on Monday morning, with Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi praising Pakistan and Qatar for their mediation and saying they \u201cdelivered major progress\u201d.<\/p>\n

And despite the public bluster, JD Vance told reporters that Trump had \u201casked us to turn over a new leaf<\/a> to transform our relationship with the people of Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n

Trump returns to White House and trashes media coverage of Iran war<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Shortly after returning to the White House from a weekend at Camp David, President Donald Trump lashed out at the \u201cCorrupt and Failing New York Times,\u201d which published an analysis on the U.S. war with Iran finding that neither the conflict nor an agreement to end it have definitively cut off threats from the regime.<\/p>\n

\u201cREALLY?\u201d Trump responded on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir Military is DONE, their Navy is GONE, their Air Force is GONE, their Launching Pads, Missiles, Drones and Manufacturing of same, is almost GONE, their top two sets of Leaders are GONE, their Inflation is at 250%, their Economy is BROKEN, their Soldiers aren\u2019t being paid, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN, THE OIL IS GUSHING, and the U.S. Stock Market and Jobs are at record HIGHS,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
