On the face of it it could be easily dismissed as Trump trying to minimize and gloss over what many analysts view as a U.S. defeat.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t the only instance of Trump playing free and easy with the truth for his own benefit. Coming from an adversary like Iran it might be dismissed as part of propaganda campaign.\u00a0However, when similar reports come from supposed allies like Italy things are different.<\/p>\n<p>According to Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Donald Trump \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2026\/jun\/19\/giorgia-meloni-stunned-donald-trump-claims-begged-him-photo\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>t<\/strong><\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2026\/jun\/19\/giorgia-meloni-stunned-donald-trump-claims-begged-him-photo\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>otally invented<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u201d a story about her after the U.S. president claimed she begged him to take a photo with her during the G7 summit.<\/p>\n<p>Is Trump\u2019s narcissism getting the better of him? Is he really so delusional about meeting supposed European allies or the recent conflict with Iran that he actually believes what he says?<\/p>\n<p>If so, this calls into question Trump\u2019s state of mind and whether he is mentally fit to continue as president?<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Trump takes aim at critics of US-Iran MoU, says Iran \u2018finished\u2019<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Joseph Stepansky \u2013 Al Jazeera June 19, 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>United States President Donald Trump has struck out at critics of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/17\/read-the-us-account-of-unreleased-14-point-iran-ceasefire-memorandum\">memorandum of understanding<\/a> signed by Washington and Tehran to end the US-Israeli war with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The statements on Friday, a continuation of Trump\u2019s defence of the deal to end the war launched by the US and Israel on February 28, came a day after US Vice President JD Vance cancelled a planned trip to Switzerland to begin negotiations on a host of entrenched issues as outlined in the MOU.<\/p>\n<p>The delay has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/19\/us-iran-talks-postponed-as-israel-attacks-lebanon\">thrown into question<\/a> the longevity of the deal, only a day after both sides signed on, with Israel\u2019s ongoing fighting in Lebanon threatening to derail the diplomatic breakthrough.<\/p>\n<p>In back-to-back posts on Truth Social on Friday, Trump maintained that he had strengthened Washington\u2019s hand in the region, rejecting criticism from Democrats and a handful of Republicans that the MOU only addresses issues that the conflict itself created.<\/p>\n<p>That included reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the US naval blockade on Iran\u2019s ports, and halting fighting on all fronts, including, ostensibly, Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said, \u201cThe War has diminished Iran!\u201d, pointing to US attacks that have degraded Iran\u2019s navy, air force and traditional military capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Democrats, however, are saying \u201cIran is better off now than it was four months ago. Can you imagine getting away with that??? How stupid can some people be???\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a second post, Trump declared that Iran, not the US, entered negotiations out of \u201cdesperation\u201d, adding, \u201cThey are FINISHED!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll play out the 60 days,\u201d he said, in an apparent reference to the MOU\u2019s negotiation period, during which time Iran\u2019s nuclear programme, the future administration of the Strait of Hormuz, the releasing of Iran\u2019s frozen assets, the lifting of all sanctions on Iran, and the creation of a $300bn reconstruction plan for Iran were set to be discussed.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Trump claims Iran\u2019s \u2018unconditional surrender\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Trump had also sat down for an on-camera interview with Axios News on Thursday, in which he suggested that Iran\u2019s signing of the MOU \u201cprobably is unconditional surrender\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he learned from the war, which remained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/4\/28\/after-60-days-of-war-in-iran-does-us-congress-want-a-say\">unrestrained<\/a> by the US Congress, that there \u201care no limits\u201d to his power.<\/p>\n<p>He also took aim at a handful of Republican Iran hawks who have criticised the MOU.<\/p>\n<p>That has included Senator Tom Cotton, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who has criticised the agreement\u2019s immediate lifting of US sanctions on Iran\u2019s fossil fuel industry, calling it a \u201cstep in the wrong direction\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Roger Wicker, meanwhile, criticised both the planned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/18\/mous-300bn-iran-reconstruction-fund-becomes-us-political-flashpoint\">$300bn reconstruction fund<\/a> for Iran, which Trump has maintained will not be funded by US taxpayer dollars, and the pledge to halt fighting in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei again said Tehran holds the US responsible for attacks in Lebanon, as Israel said it hit more than 150 targets since midnight.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, a US official, two Hezbollah sources, and and Israeli official told the Reuters news agency that a new ceasefire had been agreed in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>A day earlier, US Vice President JD Vance lodged a rare public rebuke of Israel amid its ongoing military campaign, warning Israeli officials against attacking \u201cthe only powerful ally that [they] have anywhere left \u200cin the entire world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In his interview with Axios, Trump maintained that his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was \u201cgood, but we have to keep him a little bit sane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/6\/19\/trump-takes-aim-at-critics-of-us-iran-mou-says-iran-finished\">Source\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trump sounds dangerously delusional.
