A Texas jury found Karmelo Anthony guilty <\/strong>Tuesday of the 2025 murder of Austin Metcalf, a fellow high school student at a Dallas-area track meet.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The verdict carries with it a sentence of five years to life in prison. Anthony was 17 at the time, but Texas law allowed him to be charged as an adult. He is now 19.<\/div>\n

On April 2, 2025, Austin Metcalf, a White 17-year-old student at Memorial High School, was murdered by Karmelo Anthony, a\u00a0 black Centennial High School student of the same age, while attending a school track meet in Frisco, Texas. During a rain delay in the meet, Anthony left his team’s tent and sat in the tent for the Memorial High athletes. He was asked to leave repeatedly, but refused.<\/p>\n

An argument ensued. Metcalf shoved Anthony, who pulled a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Metcalf died in the arms of his twin brother. Anthony was arrested and charged with murder. His father immediately opened a GoFundMe account and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, which he spent on a new car and a new house.<\/p>\n
