Today is first day of the World Health Organization\u2019s 79th annual World Health Assembly<\/a>, where delegates come together to set policies and priorities for global health.<\/p>\n

Essentially, it\u2019s a week-long exercise in saying, as loud and long possible, \u201cWe\u2019re really important.\u201d<\/p>\n

And thank goodness it came along when it did, because\u2026wow.<\/p>\n

The hantavirus outbreak is tearing through the world at the unstoppably terrifying rate of five whole deaths every two months.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s about 30 deaths in a year or about\u00a0 0.25% of the number of people who\u2019ll died from falling down stairs.<\/p>\n

In Africa, the Ebola virus went from zero to \u201cemergency\u201d in no time at all, and the African CDC\u00a0 had no choice but to go into panic mode.<\/p>\n

A new strain of Ebola virus has been declared an international public health emergency by the World Health Organisation.<\/p>\n

More than 300 suspected cases have been identified \u2013 with at least 80 deaths reported. The outbreak is mostly confined to the Democratic Republic of the\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/LIP0LG6MtD<\/a><\/p>\n

These twin outbreaks, combined with a \u201cgrowing anti-vaccine movement\u201d, and funding cuts to research\u00a0 \u00a0show the world is \u201cnot ready for the next pandemic\u201d, according to Al Jazeera<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And \u2013 of course \u2013 climate change might mean more hantavirus outbreaks<\/a> could happen!<\/p>\n

And \u201cExperts\u201d are now saying the world is becoming more vulnerable<\/a> to these infectious disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n

Be afraid \u2013 be very afraid!<\/p>\n

And, oh yes \u2013\u00a0 \u00a0 with all this chaos out there\u2026maybe this would be a good time to finally start ratifying that Pandemic Treaty, what do you think guys?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s sort of like last year, when the weeks leading up the 78th Assembly<\/a> saw the world afflicted with fresh rushes of monkeypox cases<\/a>, along with outbreaks of measles, cholera,<\/a> anthrax and polio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Which may or may not have helped them secure a 30% budget increase for 2026<\/a>, not to mention hundreds of millions of dollars in extra funding pledges<\/a>.<\/p>\n

You have to say, if nothing else,\u00a0 \u201cpanic mode\u201d is going to secure a lot of bucks.<\/p>\n

Cash the WHO might \u201cneed\u201d, given the United States officially pulled out of the organization back in Januar<\/a>y.<\/p>\n

This plays into the multipolarity narrative.<\/p>\n

On the one side, you\u2019ll have the \u201csensible\u201d WHO countries, working together and being nice and preventing diseases. Then, on the other, you\u2019ll have the silly backwards MAGA US, being individual and selfish and backwards.<\/p>\n

OR<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the one side, you\u2019ll have the tyrannical collectivist WHO, enforcing conformity and stifling competition and stepping on freedoms. Then, on the other, you\u2019ll have the rugged, lone-wolf US taking care of business.<\/p>\n

Your side determines your view. Pick one. It won\u2019t make much difference in the end.<\/p>\n

The policies each employs will be almost identical.<\/p>\n

Speaking of policies, more \u201cexperts\u201d<\/a> (different ones from before) are calling on the WHO to formally declare climate change a \u201cpublic health emergency of international concern\u201d (Pheic) and\u2026<\/p>\n

trigger coordinated international response that could help avoid millions dying<\/p>\n
