Two days ago, a new statue \u201cappeared\u201d in Waterloo Place, London.<\/p>\n

Located between Pall Mall and Trafalgar Square and only a few hundred yards from Buckingham Palace and Horse Guards Parade \u2013 the new artwork depicts a man stepping off a plinth, blinded to his fate by the flag he\u2019s carrying on a staff in his hand.<\/p>\n

The resin statue is allegedly the latest work by guerilla artist Banksy, his signature appears on the lower corner and it has been authenticated by his official Instagram account<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Pest Control Office<\/a> \u2013 responsible for authenticating the anonymous artist\u2019s works, have yet to comment.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll note the quotes I put around the word \u201cappeared\u201d in the opening sentence. I used that word because that\u2019s the word the media are using.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the word used by the Arts Newspaper<\/a>, for example. And the BBC<\/a>. And CNN<\/a>. And CBC. And the Independent<\/a>. And the Smithsonian<\/a>. And LBC<\/a>. And NBC<\/a>. And the Times of India<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And on the \u201ctrending topics\u201d X page:<\/p>\n

The I<\/em> mixed it up a bit, going for \u201cpops up\u201d<\/a> instead. And People added the word \u201cmysteriously\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But statues don\u2019t just \u201cappear\u201d, do they? Mysteriously or otherwise.<\/p>\n

They have to be made, transported and then placed. How was this done?<\/p>\n

Well, the BBC attempts to answer this question in this article<\/a>, which headlines \u201cHow Did Banksy Erect a Statue in Central London?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

And offers this explanation, via James Peak host of the BBC\u2019s \u201cBanksy Story\u201d podcast:<\/p>\n

He\u2019s got a really big team who are a very, very experienced crew [\u2026] They\u2019re the sort of dudes who can set up a Metallica concert in 24 hours: groovy folks but actually extremely organised and professional when it comes to getting things done [\u2026] They\u2019ve probably surveilled the area, worked out what happens when, gone in the early hours with a low-loader truck and they probably sited it in a few minutes, at the quietest time possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Banksy\u2019s \u201creally big team\u201d of \u201cgroovy folks\u201d even posted a video showing how to social media<\/a>:<\/p>\n
