{"id":325918,"date":"2026-04-10T07:00:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T07:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=325918"},"modified":"2026-04-11T05:47:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T05:47:14","slug":"north-korea-unveils-cluster-bomb-missile-electronic-warfare-capability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=325918","title":{"rendered":"North Korea unveils cluster-bomb missile, electronic warfare capability"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Heejin Kim and Kyu-Seok Shim \u2013 Reuters April 8, 2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>North Korea tested cluster-bomb, electromagnetic system, and carbon-fibre bomb, KCNA reported<\/li>\n<li>Experts warn new weapons could threaten South Korea&#8217;s defences and complicate regional security<\/li>\n<li>Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit North Korea amid heightened tensions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SEOUL, April 9 (Reuters) &#8211; North Korea tested a new cluster-bomb warhead on a ballistic missile and an electromagnetic weapon this week, state media KCNA reported on \u200cThursday, in a move seen as part of efforts by Pyongyang to showcase its capacity to fight a modern war.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s Academy of Defence Science and the Missile Administration also conducted tests of carbon-fibre bombs and a mobile short-range anti-aircraft missile system, KCNA said.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Jong Sik, a general who oversaw the tests, said the electromagnetic weapon system and carbon-fibre bombs were &#8220;special \u200bassets&#8221; for North Korea&#8217;s military, KCNA reported.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Joint Chiefs of Staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/north-korea-says-south-koreas-true-colours-enemy-state-unchanged-dashing-seouls-2026-04-07\/\">said<\/a> on Wednesday that Pyongyang had test-fired multiple missiles over several days.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts also see \u200bthe tests as likely to be a show of force in cutting-edge conventional weapon systems by the nuclear-armed North \u2060for its adversaries and allies.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to make a two-day visit to North Korea starting on Thursday. There has also \u200bbeen speculation that U.S. President Donald Trump may try to hold a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the sidelines of \u200bhis visit to China in mid-May.<\/p>\n<p>Without specifying the number of ballistic missiles launched &#8211; a violation of United Nations sanctions &#8211; North Korea said it had tested its mobile short-range anti-aircraft missile system as well as the combat capabilities of its tactical ballistic missile warhead.<\/p>\n<p>One test proved the surface-to-surface tactical ballistic missile called Hwasongpho-11 Ka, which is tipped with \u200ba cluster-bomb warhead, was able to &#8220;reduce to ashes any target&#8221; covering an area of up to 7 hectares (17 acres), KCNA said.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ELECTRONIC WARFARE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The tests also follow North \u200bKorea reiterating its characterisation of South Korea as a &#8220;hostile enemy,&#8221; dashing recent hopes in Seoul of easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>North Korea appears to be upgrading its weapon system \u200cwith cutting-edge \u2060technology suited for a modern war, said Lim Eul-chul, a professor at Kyungnam University in South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>The electromagnetic weapon system could have the capacity to disable electronic circuits in the enemy&#8217;s assets, with the potential ability to cripple South Korea&#8217;s F-35A stealth fighter jet or Aegis-equipped destroyers, Lim said.<\/p>\n<p>Carbon-fibre bombs, which have been developed by advanced militaries such as the U.S. and China, are capable of crippling infrastructure like power plants by \u200bsprinkling conductive strands of carbon fibre \u200bover a target.
