{"id":325659,"date":"2026-04-03T06:40:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T06:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=325659"},"modified":"2026-04-05T08:07:00","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T08:07:00","slug":"pete-hegseth-fires-highest-ranking-us-army-officer-in-the-middle-of-iran-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=325659","title":{"rendered":"Pete Hegseth fires highest-ranking US Army officer in the middle of Iran war"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Ross Ibetson \u2013 Daily Mail April 2, 2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hegseth.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wpa-warning wpa-image-missing-alt alignright wp-image-302897\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Hegseth.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" data-warning=\"Missing alt text\" \/><\/a>Defense Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/media\/pete-hegseth\/index.html\"><strong>Pete Hegseth<\/strong><\/a> has ousted the highest-ranking US Army officer amid the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/iran\/index.html\"><strong>Iran<\/strong><\/a> war.<\/div>\n<p>General Randy George, a Biden appointee, was told to step down and take immediate retirement, CBS News reported.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/the-pentagon\/index.html\"><strong>Pentagon<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0official said: &#8216;We are grateful for his service, but it was time for a leadership change in the Army.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>George is understood to have clashed with the administration&#8217;s vision for the Army.<\/p>\n<p>Vice Chief of Staff General Christopher LaNeve, a former aide to Hegseth, will be acting chief of staff.<\/p>\n<p>Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said that\u00a0LaNeve is &#8216;a battle-tested leader with decades of operational experience and is completely trusted by Secretary Hegseth to carry out the vision of this administration without fault.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth&#8217;s decision comes as 50,000 US troops are deployed in the Middle East ahead of a possible ground invasion in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>George is the senior-most uniformed officer in the Army &#8211; a four-star general and the 41st Chief of Staff responsible for organizing, training and equipping more than one million soldiers, though not a field commander directing tactical strikes.<\/p>\n<p>George reports to General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, the civilian head of the branch; and Hegseth, whose highest military rank was as an Army major.<\/p>\n<p>George was confirmed by the Senate in 2023 and is significantly short of completing the typical four-year term.<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth has purged more than a dozen senior officers, including\u00a0Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General C.Q.
