US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned Europe\u2019s leaders that mass migration is \u201ca crisis destabilising the West\u201d and that America does not want its allies \u201cshackled by shame\u201d. The Mail <\/em>has the details<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday morning, Rubio claimed the West has \u201copened our doors\u201d to an \u201cunprecedented wave of mass migration\u201d as he appealed to Europe to be \u201cproud\u201d of its culture and Christian heritage.<\/p>\n

But he also struck a somewhat conciliatory tone in parts, saying that America and Europe \u201cbelong together\u201d and said the continent is one of the US\u2019s \u201ccherished allies and oldest friends\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will always be a child of Europe,\u201d he added, to applause from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Among those present at the conference is\u00a0British Prime Minister\u00a0Sir\u00a0Keir Starmer, alongside around 50 world leaders. \u2026<\/p>\n

Addressing \u201cmass migration\u201d during his speech this morning, Rubio said: \u201cMass migration is not, was not, some fringe concern of little consequence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was and continues to be a crisis that is transforming and destabilising societies all across the west.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cControlling who and how many people enter our countries, this is not an expression of xenophobia, it is not hate.\u00a0It is a fundamental act of national sovereignty.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He said failing to do so would be a \u201cfundamental abdication\u201d of \u201cduty\u201d, and described migration as an \u201curgent threat to the fabric of our societies and to the survival of our civilisation itself\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in his wide-ranging address, which spoke to the history of the United States, the US Secretary of State said: \u201cWe want allies who can defend themselves, so that no adversary will ever be tempted to test our collective strength. This is why we do not want our allies to be shackled by guilt and shame.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want allies who are proud of their culture and of their heritage, who understand that we are heirs to the same great and noble civilisation, and who together with us are willing and able to defend it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd this is why we do not want allies to rationalise the broken status quo<\/em>, rather than reckon with what is necessary to fix it. For we in America have no interest in being polite and orderly caretakers of the West\u2019s managed decline.\u201d<\/p>\n
