{"id":323220,"date":"2026-02-17T06:55:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T06:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=323220"},"modified":"2026-02-18T09:17:45","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T09:17:45","slug":"poland-should-develop-its-own-nuclear-defences-amid-growing-threat-from-russia-says-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetruthseeker.co.uk\/?p=323220","title":{"rendered":"Poland should develop its own nuclear defences amid growing threat from Russia, says president"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Straits Times \u2013 Feb 16, 2026<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Poland should look at developing its own nuclear weapons, in the light of the growing threat from Russia, President Karol Nawrocki said in an interview with Polsat News television.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am a big supporter of Poland joining a nuclear project,\u201d Mr Nawrocki said in the interview, adding that he cannot say if or when Poland will start work aimed towards having its own nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a country right on the border of an armed conflict, and we know what the attitude of the aggressive, imperial Russian Federation toward Poland is,\u201d Mr Nawrocki added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nawrocki\u2019s comments come after German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said at the Munich Security Conference that he\u2019s in talks with France over potential European nuclear defence. Mr Merz made a call to reorder the transatlantic relationship amid the turmoil of US President Donald Trump\u2019s second term.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nawrocki said in the Polsat News interview that Poland should follow the path toward developing its own nuclear potential, with respect for all international regulations.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the US would allow Poland to take this direction, as Warsaw is a signatory of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, Mr Nawrocki said \u201cI don\u2019t know this, but we need to act in a direction so that we can start the work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Warsaw signed a treaty with France in 2025, which Prime Minister Donald Tusk said will open the way toward Poland potentially sharing protection from French nuclear missile.<\/p>\n<p>In September, more than 20 drones\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/world\/europe\/russia-rains-drones-and-missiles-on-ukraine-poland-scrambles-aircraft?ref=inline-article\">crossed Poland\u2019s territory during a Russian airstrike on neighbouring Ukraine<\/a>. Warsaw spends almost 5 per cent of economic output on defense and is also the biggest beneficiary of European Union\u2019s SAFE defence loan programme.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nawrocki said it is too early for him to say if he would sign into law a draft that would streamline the SAFE funds in Poland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/world\/europe\/poland-should-develop-its-own-nuclear-defences-says-president\">Source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a growing realization that Western nations cannot depend on Washington for protection.
